The Lantern Festival stage culminates in a confrontation with the formidable Arachno Tank, a mechanical spider-like boss that demands mastery of specific combat techniques. Your proficiency with the Cannon Punch ability becomes absolutely critical here, as this move serves as the sole method to bypass the boss’s primary defense mechanism. Without employing Cannon Punch strategically, you’ll find yourself completely unable to inflict any meaningful damage throughout the encounter. The game subtly hints at this requirement through the appearance of a distinctive green energy barrier that materializes around the boss.

(Fight starts at 46:47)

Immediately upon encountering the Arachno Tank in Shinobi Art of Vengeance, it activates a protective green energy field we’ve designated as the Invulnerability Shield. A single well-timed Cannon Punch strike will temporarily disable this shield, creating your damage window. However, remain vigilant as the boss possesses the capability to reactivate this protective barrier multiple times during the engagement, requiring you to maintain situational awareness and conserve Cannon Punch opportunities.

Attack Patterns and Countermeasures

The most consistent damage-dealing sequence I discovered involves initiating with Dive Kick, flowing seamlessly into Aerial Spin, then chaining together light attacks followed by heavy strikes. Cancel this combination into a tactical dash or roll maneuver to reposition either behind or at a safe distance from the Arachno Tank as the situation demands. When the boss prepares its Shadow Dash assault, you’ll notice a distinct wind-up animation followed by an unmistakable purple glow indicating an unavoidable attack that cannot be blocked or parried—a mechanic introduced during your first boss encounter.

Remain alert for the Grenade Launcher attack, where projectiles arc high through the air toward your current position. These explosives target where you stand at the moment of firing, allowing strategic positioning to manipulate their landing zones. The Bulletstorm assault consists of a rapid volley of damaging projectiles, preceded by a red glint from the tank’s frontal weapons. Employ a simple crouching movement to evade these low-flying bullets completely.

The Arachno Tank maintains the ability to reactivate its Invulnerability Shield at any point during the Lantern Festival boss confrontation. Particularly watchful during its charging maneuvers, as it can deploy the shield mid-dash, adding another layer of complexity to your defensive calculations. This engagement fundamentally revolves around executing powerful combos during brief openings, then swiftly evading incoming attacks. The boss exhibits noticeably long recovery periods between assault patterns, creating consistent opportunities to flank it from behind.

Advanced Combat Strategies

Strategic positioning proves invaluable—if you maneuver the boss toward the right side of the arena, it may prematurely halt its charge, enabling you to flank it and temporarily neutralize threats like the Grenade Launcher. Based on my observations, the tank appears to utilize charging attacks and grenade volleys more frequently once its health drops below the 50% threshold, though this could potentially reflect random encounter variance rather than programmed behavior.

You retain the capability to shatter the protective shield even during the boss’s purple-glowing attack states, though this carries significant risk—you absolutely want to avoid taking damage from those special assaults. After crossing the 50% health marker, the Arachno Tank upgrades its grenade attacks from two to three projectiles per volley, requiring adjusted evasion patterns.

Approaching the 25% health milestone introduces a new purple laser technique that sweeps across the battlefield, originating beneath the tank’s chassis and extending outward. When the Arachno Tank’s vitality dwindles to critical levels (approximately 5% or less), you gain access to an Execution move. The appearance of distinctive red and black symbols signals this opportunity, allowing immediate boss elimination through a cinematic execute sequence. Emerging victorious concludes the stage and rewards you with the powerful Thunder Ninpo ability.

Common Mistakes and Pro Tips

Avoid These Critical Errors: Never waste Cannon Punch on anything but the Invulnerability Shield. Conserving this cooldown ensures you can immediately respond when the shield reappears. Don’t get greedy with combos—the tank’s attacks hit hard, so prioritize evasion over extra damage. Never stand directly in front of the boss for extended periods, as this makes you vulnerable to multiple attack types simultaneously.

Advanced Technique Optimization: Master the art of canceling attack animations into dashes to maintain mobility while dealing damage. Time your Cannon Punch to land just as the shield appears to maximize damage windows. Learn to recognize audio cues for each attack—the Grenade Launcher has a distinct charging sound that precedes visual indicators.

Resource Management: Monitor your ninpo gauge throughout the fight. While Thunder Ninpo unlocks after victory, other abilities can provide tactical advantages during the battle itself. Health pickups are limited, so perfecting your dodges becomes essential for survival.
