League of Legends executive producer Jeremy ‘Brightmoon’ Lee steps down after 8 years, transitioning to new role at Riot Games
The Legacy of Brightmoon’s Leadership
After an impactful eight-year tenure, Jeremy ‘Brightmoon’ Lee has announced his departure as League of Legends Executive Producer, marking a significant leadership transition for the iconic MOBA.
League of Legends has maintained its position as a gaming and esports cornerstone for 14 remarkable years. For more than half of that timeline, Jeremy Lee provided strategic direction and creative oversight as executive producer, steering the game through multiple evolutionary phases.
During his stewardship, Lee guided the development team through substantial gameplay transformations including comprehensive map redesigns, seasonal limited-time modes, and strategic champion updates. His leadership coincided with League’s expansion into new gaming genres through carefully developed spin-off projects.
The Transition Announcement
In a recent Developer Update broadcast, Lee formally declared his intention to step away from the executive producer position he’s held since 2016. While transitioning from production leadership, he emphasized this move doesn’t signify departure from Riot Games entirely.
“This year’s development cycle has delivered particularly intense challenges and rewards,” Lee reflected during the presentation. “The advancements our team achieved and, crucially, the content we’ve delivered to players has brought tremendous satisfaction. Given these accomplishments, I’ve determined the timing is appropriate to transition from my current responsibilities.”
“Leading League’s development these past eight years fulfilled a professional aspiration, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to support both our player community and exceptional development team,” Lee stated. “Though this transition brings mixed emotions, it certainly doesn’t represent a final farewell. I’ll be pursuing different opportunities within Riot and anticipate reconnecting when circumstances allow.”
Leadership Succession Strategy
Lee elaborated that he would be transferring leadership responsibilities to a new Executive Producer for League of Legends. Notably, Riot hasn’t yet identified his replacement and Lee acknowledged the ongoing search for qualified candidates continues actively.
“I remain confident we’ll secure an outstanding leader and present them to our community shortly,” Lee explained. Following this transition period, Lee will maintain his association with Riot Games, though the specifics of his future role remain undefined currently.
