WoW Shadowlands class updates revealed: What players can expect from future patches
Developer Insights on Class Changes
World of Warcraft Game Director Ion Hazzikostas has outlined Blizzard’s roadmap for class improvements in Shadowlands during a recent developer Q&A session. The team is prioritizing enhancements that reinforce class identity through visual and gameplay elements.
While the upcoming Chains of Domination patch (9.1) focuses on new content, the development team is already working on significant class updates for subsequent updates. These changes aim to address long-standing player requests for more distinctive class identity.
Hazzikostas confirmed: “We’re implementing class-themed armor sets in a future update, though not with Chains of Domination. These won’t be simple recolors but designs that truly capture each class’s fantasy.” This addresses player concerns about generic armor appearances that have persisted since Legion.
Regarding glyph customization, Hazzikostas noted: “Our art team is expanding the glyph system to provide more visual options for core abilities. While I can’t share specifics today, we’re looking at effects for major cooldowns and frequently used spells.”
Chains of Domination Updates
The 9.1 update brings substantial new content while laying groundwork for future class improvements. Players can explore Korthia, the City of Secrets, which features new world quests, treasures, and a faction reputation system tied to the mysterious Archivists’ Codex.
A major quality-of-life improvement comes with the unlock of flying across all Shadowlands zones. Players will need to complete the new campaign chapters and reach Revered with the new faction before gaining this mobility boost.
The Sanctum of Domination raid presents 10 challenging encounters against Sylvanas Windrunner and her forces. This culminates in a dramatic showdown that advances the expansion’s storyline significantly. Raid Finder wings will open progressively, with the final confrontation available three weeks after launch.
What Players Should Prepare For
With class changes coming post-9.1, players should:
- Save current tier sets for potential transmog combinations
- Complete class campaigns for any remaining glyph unlocks
- Farm legacy content for additional visual options
- Experiment with different talent builds to prepare for possible adjustments
Advanced players should note that the developers are specifically looking at underused abilities for visual upgrades. Spending time mastering these now could pay off when they receive enhanced effects.
A common mistake is overlooking older glyphs that might become more valuable. Check your collection for rare or discontinued glyphs that could complement new effects.
