Raven Software expands talent pool with 50% growth to enhance Warzone experience
Raven’s Expansion Strategy
The development team behind Call of Duty: Warzone has undergone significant expansion, with Raven Software increasing its workforce by 50% through strategic recruitment from leading game studios. This growth spurt comes as Activision bolsters resources to maintain Warzone’s position as a top-tier battle royale experience.
Since its March 2020 launch, Warzone has consistently grown its player base, demanding continuous development support. The hiring initiative brought in approximately 12 producers, 40 programmers and testers, 30 artists and animators, with 40 more positions still available.
Impact on Warzone Development
Warzone’s technical foundation combines Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare engine with assets from Treyarch’s Black Ops Cold War, all managed through Raven’s development pipeline. With Sledgehammer Games’ upcoming integration, the collaborative approach demonstrates Activision’s commitment to cross-studio synergy.
Players have consistently requested three key improvements:
- Enhanced anti-cheat measures
- Ranked competitive playlists
- Expanded map content
The new hires’ backgrounds suggest potential progress in these areas, particularly given their experience with similar systems in other titles.
Industry Expertise Integration
Among the notable additions are Ted Timmins (formerly of Far Cry 6) and William Fine (previously worked on Fortnite), bringing specialized knowledge in open-world design and live service operations. Their expertise aligns perfectly with Warzone’s needs, particularly regarding map development and ongoing content updates.
The recruitment strategy appears deliberately targeted – Epic Games veterans understand battle royale anti-cheat systems, Respawn alumni know competitive playlist design, and Ubisoft transplants offer world-building experience. This suggests Activision is building specific competencies rather than just adding headcount.
