TFT patch 11.2 notes: Festival of Beasts mid-set update

TFT Patch 11.2 Breakdown: New Champions, Traits, and Meta Shifts

Introduction to Festival of Beasts

The long-awaited ‘Festival of Beasts’ mid-set update has arrived in TFT patch 11.2, bringing sweeping changes to the autobattler’s meta. This Chinese New Year-themed update marks the transition from Fates to Set 4.5, introducing fresh gameplay dynamics that will require players to adapt their strategies.

Riot Games has completely refreshed the Teamfight Tactics experience with this January 21 update, which serves as the first major patch of 2021. The changes are so extensive that even veteran players will need to relearn portions of the game.

What makes this update particularly impactful is its complete overhaul of several core mechanics. Beyond just adding new content, the developers have reworked fundamental systems that will change how players approach team composition and itemization.

New Champions and Traits

The update introduces 20 completely new champions, each bringing unique synergies to the game. Notable additions include high-cost powerhouses like Aurelion Sol (4-cost Dragonsoul Mage) and Samira (5-cost Daredevil Sharpshooter Slayer), who will likely become cornerstones of new meta compositions.

Seven brand-new traits have been introduced, each offering distinct strategic advantages:

  • Blacksmith: Ornn forges powerful artifacts during combat
  • Dragonsoul: Blessing transfers on death to nearest ally
  • Daredevil: Samira’s unique dash-and-combo mechanic

To make room for these additions, several traits including Dazzler, Dusk, and Moonlight have been removed. This creates space for fresh team composition possibilities while retiring some older strategies.

Major Trait Reworks

Three core traits have undergone complete overhauls that change their fundamental identities:

Vanguard now provides both Armor and Magic Resist (100/250/500/1000 Armor + 20/40/70/100 MR), making them true all-purpose frontline units. This change significantly improves their viability against magic-heavy compositions.

Brawlers gain Attack Damage (20/40/80/150) in addition to Health, transforming them from pure tanks into hybrid frontline/damage dealers. This makes champions like the newly-added Shyvana particularly potent.

Sharpshooters now ricochet more frequently (2/3/4 bounces at 2/4/6 units) with adjusted damage scaling. While individual hits deal less damage, the increased bounces enable more consistent mana generation and secondary effects like Teemo’s blind.

Balance Adjustments

Beyond the major reworks, numerous balance changes affect existing traits and items:

  • Enlightened now provides significantly more mana (50/100/150% vs 50/70/100%)
  • Cultist received buffs to encourage 9-unit compositions
  • Mage breakpoints reworked to 3/5/7 units with adjusted power scaling

Item changes include:

  • Hextech Gunblade shield reduced from 400 to 300
  • Zeke’s Herald attack speed bonus decreased from 35% to 30%
  • Statikk Shiv now bounces more times (4/5/6 vs 3/4/5)

These adjustments will require players to reconsider their standard item builds and trait priorities.

New Meta Strategies

Based on the patch changes, several promising strategies are emerging:

Dragonsoul Comps: With 7 Dragonsoul champions available, building around this trait offers strong scaling potential. The blessing transfer mechanic creates interesting positioning decisions.

Slayer Focus: The reworked Slayer trait (3/6 units) synergizes well with Brawler changes. Champions like Olaf and Tryndamere become self-sustaining damage dealers.

Early Game Tips:

  1. Prioritize Brawler or Vanguard openers for stable early game
  2. Look for Tristana or Brand as Dragonsoul carries
  3. Adapt your build based on early Blacksmith items

Avoid overcommitting to removed traits like Moonlight, and be prepared to pivot your composition based on the new champion offerings.
