Respawn finally remove Low Profile in Apex Legends Season 9

Apex Legends Season 9 removes Low Profile: Impact on Wraith, Wattson, and Lifeline gameplay

Introduction

Season 9 of Apex Legends brings a major balance shift with the removal of the controversial Low Profile mechanic from Wraith, Wattson, and Lifeline. This change significantly alters combat dynamics for these characters, potentially reshaping the competitive meta.

Understanding Low Profile Changes

The Low Profile mechanic, introduced at launch to balance smaller hitbox characters, has been a point of contention among Apex Legends players. Respawn Entertainment’s decision to remove it in Season 9 follows extensive community feedback and data analysis.

Originally designed to offset the advantage of smaller character models, Low Profile increased damage taken by 5% for Wraith, Wattson, and Lifeline. Pathfinder previously had this debuff but received its removal in Season 8 as part of balance adjustments.

Game designer Daniel Klein confirmed in March that complete removal was planned, pending adjustments to Lifeline’s kit. With Season 9’s changes to her revive mechanics, the development team found the right moment to implement this significant balance shift.

Legend-Specific Impacts

The removal affects each Legend differently:

  • Wraith: Benefits most from hitbox consistency, as her tactical ability already provides repositioning options
  • Wattson: Gains improved survivability to complement her defensive playstyle
  • Lifeline: Compensation for her revive shield removal, requiring more strategic positioning

Fortified remains unchanged for Caustic and Gibraltar, maintaining their 15% damage reduction and bullet slow resistance to offset their larger hitboxes.

Season 9 Meta Implications

This change significantly impacts combat dynamics:

  • Wraith becomes more viable in aggressive compositions
  • Wattson’s defensive setups gain additional staying power
  • Lifeline players must adapt to more exposed revives
  • Damage calculations against these Legends become more predictable

The May 4 update also introduces Valkyrie, the Bocek Bow, and Olympus map changes, creating a substantially different gameplay experience from previous seasons.
