Event Overview and Timing
Pokemon Sword & Shield players have a special opportunity to celebrate the franchise’s 25th anniversary with a limited-time Max Raid Battle featuring Gigantamax Pikachu. This event commemorates Pokemon Day on February 27, 2021, as part of Nintendo’s year-long celebration.
The event window runs from February 26 through February 28, giving trainers just 72 hours to challenge this special raid. This timing allows global players to participate regardless of their timezone.
Pro Tip: Raid spawns refresh at midnight local time, so plan multiple attempts throughout the event period for maximum chances at catching Pikachu.
Rewards and Special Bonuses
Beyond the standard raid rewards, this event features exclusive bonuses. All participants receive standard drops, but there’s a special community challenge: if one million trainers defeat Gigantamax Pikachu globally, everyone gets bonus items.
The community rewards include 100 Dynite Ore and 100 Armorite Ore – precious currencies for move tutoring, EV resets, and Watts farming. These will be distributed between March 2-15 if the goal is met.
Common Mistake: Don’t confuse the event Pikachu with standard Max Raid Pikachus – only the Gigantamax version offers these special rewards.
Participation Guide
Finding and completing these special raids requires some strategy. Look for active Pokemon Dens in the Wild Area marked by bright pillars of light. The Gigantamax Pikachu silhouette will be visible when approaching.
Advanced Tip: Use Steel or Grass-type Pokemon to counter Pikachu effectively. Avoid Water and Flying types as Pikachu often knows Thunderbolt.
All players can participate regardless of Expansion Pass ownership. The limited-edition ‘concert Pikachu’ comes with unique moves including Sing and Celebrate – normally unavailable for Pikachu.
