OfflineTV Rust server splits into PvP and RP-focused versions to resolve streamer conflicts
The PvP vs RP Conflict
The OfflineTV Rust server has been at the center of intense debate regarding gameplay styles, with approximately 60% of participants favoring aggressive PvP while others sought more roleplay-focused experiences. This clash of playstyles reached a boiling point when high-profile content creators began leaving the platform.
The server’s founder Abe ‘BaboAbe’ Chung recognized that the existing single-server solution couldn’t accommodate both competitive and casual players effectively. His announcement of a dedicated RP server marks a strategic shift in community management.
Prominent streamer Pokimane’s departure highlighted the severity of the issue, with her public comments about “not having a good time” reflecting broader concerns among RP-focused players. The situation became particularly contentious when some community members suggested banning aggressive PvP players entirely.
BaboAbe’s Solution
Instead of punitive measures, Chung proposed an innovative server split that preserves both playstyles. The new RP-focused server will implement three key differences from the original: curated membership, structured roleplay guidelines, and protected progression systems.
The original server will continue operating with minimal restrictions, catering to players like xQc who thrive in competitive environments. “This dual-server approach allows us to maintain our diverse community without forcing compromises,” Chung explained in his announcement.
The RP server launching January 7 at 5PM PST will feature:
• Selective invitation system to maintain balance
• Clear roleplay guidelines and character development support
• Protected zones for new players
• Controlled PvP scenarios with narrative justification
Implementation Details
The transition period between servers will include special crossover events to maintain community cohesion. New players should note these key differences when choosing their preferred server:
- Original Server: Unrestricted PvP, frequent wipes, clan-focused gameplay
- RP Server: Character-driven stories, protected resources, moderated interactions
For streamers concerned about viewership impact, Chung suggests trying both servers during special events. “The health of our creator community remains our top priority,” he affirmed in Reddit comments addressing concerns about the split.
Viewers can catch the RP server launch live on January 7 at 5PM PST across participating streamers’ channels, with expected appearances from previously frustrated creators now returning to the modified ecosystem.
