League of Legends patch 11.13 notes: Hullbreaker, Tahm Kench update, move speed nerfs

League of Legends Patch 11.13: Major mobility nerfs, Tahm Kench rework, and new Astronaut skins

Patch Overview

League of Legends’ June 23 update brings one of the most significant system-wide changes in recent memory. Patch 11.13 targets excessive mobility in the game while introducing fresh content including champion reworks, new items, and cosmetic additions.

The update focuses on three key areas: reducing movement speed power creep, rebalancing Tahm Kench for solo queue viability, and adding new strategic options through items and game modes.

Riot Games describes this as a “very big systems patch” that will significantly impact how matches play out across all skill levels.

Mobility System Overhaul

Riot is addressing long-standing community concerns about excessive mobility in League of Legends. The developers have identified 17 items and runes that contribute to movement speed creep, implementing targeted nerfs to restore balance.

Key mobility items receiving adjustments include:

  • Galeforce: Bonus movement speed reduced at all levels
  • Stridebreaker: Dash removed entirely from the item
  • Dead Man’s Plate: Maximum bonus movement speed reduced
  • Shurelya’s Battlesong: Inspire bonus movement speed halved

These changes aim to preserve mobility as a meaningful choice rather than a universal stat. Players will need to adapt their builds and playstyles accordingly.

Gameplay designer Mark ‘Scruffy’ Yetter explained the philosophy: “We’re addressing major mobility outliers while trimming small movement speed increases that have accumulated over time.”

Tahm Kench Rework

The River King undergoes significant changes in Patch 11.13 to address his problematic balance between professional and casual play. Tahm Kench’s signature abilities have been completely reworked:

  • Abyssal Voyage (formerly ultimate) becomes his W ability
  • Devour/Regurgitate becomes his new ultimate
  • Base stats adjusted to compensate for power shifts

These changes aim to maintain Tahm Kench’s high skill ceiling while making him more accessible to average players. The rework reduces his effectiveness in coordinated team play while increasing solo queue viability.

As developer Huang noted: “Tahm has power that requires the highest degree of coordination. We’re preserving his identity while making him more balanced across all levels of play.”

New Additions

Patch 11.13 introduces exciting new content for players to explore:

Astronaut Skins

The popular Astronaut skin line expands with four new additions:

  • Astronaut Corki (1,350 RP)
  • Astronaut Maokai (1,350 RP)
  • Astronaut Rammus (1,350 RP)
  • Astronaut Veigar (1,350 RP)

These skins continue the alternate universe storyline where Runeterra champions are space explorers.

Ultimate Spellbook

This new limited-time mode lets players borrow ultimate abilities from other champions. Key features:

  • Choose from 3 random ultimates at game start
  • Replaces one summoner spell permanently
  • 39 different ultimates available in the pool

Champion Balance Changes

Eight champions receive targeted adjustments in Patch 11.13:

Notable Buffs

  • Akali: +10% damage dealt, -10% damage taken
  • Hecarim: +10% damage dealt, -10% damage taken
  • Qiyana: +15% damage dealt, -15% damage taken

Significant Nerfs

  • Dr. Mundo: +5% damage taken
  • Trundle: +5% damage taken, -5% healing
  • Zyra: -10% damage dealt, +5% damage taken

These changes aim to address champion performance in both solo queue and professional play, particularly focusing on outliers that have dominated recent metas.
