Key Black Ops Cold War February 5 update: Movement changes, CDL presets, and Zombies fixes
Update Overview
Treyarch’s latest February 5 update for Black Ops Cold War introduces significant gameplay adjustments alongside quality-of-life improvements. While not as expansive as previous content drops, this patch focuses on refining core mechanics and preparing for competitive play.
The update arrives just days after major DLC content, demonstrating Treyarch’s commitment to ongoing game refinement. Key changes include movement system adjustments, competitive mode preparations, and numerous Zombies fixes.
Players can immediately benefit from a Double XP event running through February 8, providing accelerated progression across all game modes. This complements the update’s technical improvements with tangible player rewards.
Gameplay Changes
The most noticeable change affects movement mechanics, specifically addressing jump spamming tactics. Players will now experience:
- A slight speed reduction after landing from jumps
- Reduced jump height during rapid successive jumps
These adjustments aim to curb bunny hopping and jump shotting while maintaining fluid movement. Treyarch has indicated they’ll monitor community feedback and may implement further tuning.
The H.A.R.P. scorestreak received important fixes, now functioning properly without requiring a friendly UAV. This makes the tactical advantage more reliable in standard multiplayer matches.
Competitive Play Updates
In preparation for League Play’s imminent launch, the update introduces official CDL presets for competitive modes:
- CDL Pro Hardpoint with competitive settings
- Search & Destroy tournament configurations
- Control mode with professional rulesets
Custom Games now support Gunfight mode, allowing players to practice 2v2 engagements with customized rules. This addition provides more flexibility for competitive training sessions.
The update also fixes a persistent issue preventing custom settings from saving properly, ensuring competitive players can maintain their preferred configurations.
Zombies Improvements
Zombies mode receives substantial attention in this update, particularly for the Firebase Z map:
- Main Easter Egg quest now accessible from 10AM PT
- Reduced Mimic trap frequency and fixed spawn issues
- RAI K-84 wonder weapon damage calculations corrected
- Orda boss health and equipment resistance adjusted
A notable exploit fix prevents players from bypassing the first buy door in Firebase Z by jumping, maintaining intended progression pacing. Zombie pathing in the Motor Pool area has also been improved when only the Weapons Lab is open.
Bug Fixes and Quality of Life
The update addresses numerous technical issues across all modes:
- Fixed crashes on Express map in split-screen
- Resolved issues with Tombstone Soda and scorestreaks
- Improved stability during exfil sequences
- Added classic Prestige icons from previous Black Ops titles
Notably, Warzone received no changes in this update as it had just been patched separately. Players should continue using existing Warzone configurations until further notice.
