Respawn has restored the controversial leaver penalty system in Apex Legends’ Arenas mode with update 1.71, following a temporary removal due to technical issues.
When Season 9 introduced the 3v3 Arenas mode, many players reported frustration with teammates abandoning matches prematurely. This created imbalanced 2v3 or even 1v3 situations that significantly impacted match quality. Pro Tip: If you’re frequently encountering leavers, consider queuing with a pre-made squad to ensure team stability.
The reinstated penalty system imposes a 10-minute matchmaking cooldown on players who exit Arenas matches before completion. Common Mistake: Some players mistakenly believed the penalty only applied to ranked matches – it affects all Arenas gameplay.
Ryan Rigney, Respawn’s Director of Communications, confirmed via Twitter that the development team has addressed the previous bugs that incorrectly penalized players for leaving completed matches.
