Breaking down Warzone’s April 6 weapon balancing update with expert analysis and loadout recommendations
Major Weapon Balancing: AUG and FFAR Nerfs Explained
Warzone’s April 6, 2021 update delivers crucial adjustments to two dominant weapons that have shaped the battle royale meta for weeks. The tactical rifle AUG and assault rifle FFAR both receive significant nerfs that will dramatically alter their combat effectiveness.
Raven Software’s latest balancing patch targets the AUG tactical rifle and FFAR assault rifle with specific adjustments designed to create healthier weapon diversity. Both firearms had established overwhelming dominance in their respective combat ranges, necessitating developer intervention.
For players frustrated by the AUG’s laser-like precision and the FFAR’s versatility, these changes represent a welcome shift toward more balanced engagements. The developers specifically addressed community feedback about these weapons outperforming alternatives.
The April 6 settings update from Raven Software implements targeted weapon balancing alongside attachment corrections and long-awaited fixes for the R1 Shadowhunter crossbow’s camouflage progression system.
The most impactful modifications affect the AUG (Tactical Rifle Charlie) and FFAR from Black Ops Cold War integration. The AUG now features substantially increased recoil strength, addressing what developers described as excessive ease of target tracking given the weapon’s lethal burst-fire capability.
The FFAR experiences reduced aim-down-sight speed, diminishing its effectiveness in rapid engagement scenarios. Raven’s design philosophy aims to position this assault rifle as a mid-range specialist rather than a weapon capable of outperforming submachine guns in close quarters combat.
Attachment Fixes and Technical Improvements
Several attachment systems receive crucial corrections in this update. Rear Grip attachments that previously advertised ADS speed improvements now properly provide this benefit, resolving a significant functionality issue affecting weapon customization.
The Pellington 703 wrapped suppressor now accurately displays stat bar modifications, allowing players to make informed attachment decisions based on reliable data visualization rather than misleading information.

Critical bug fixes address multiple weapon-specific issues. The Groza’s 16.5” CMV Mil-Spec barrel no longer bypasses damage falloff, the Ember Sighting Point correctly decreases ADS speed on XM4 and AK-47 rifles, and the Salvo Fast Mag properly reduces ADS speed for FFAR 1 and M16 weapons.
R1 Shadowhunter Camo Challenge Fixes
The R1 Shadowhunter crossbow finally receives functional camouflage challenges after weeks of progression system failures. Players can now properly complete Geometric, Flora, and Science camo categories that were previously impossible to unlock due to technical issues.
This resolution addresses community frustration surrounding the weapon’s cosmetic progression since its introduction. The fix enables completionists and cosmetic enthusiasts to pursue full camouflage mastery for this unique specialty weapon.
Strategic Implications and Loadout Adjustments
The AUG nerf fundamentally alters tactical rifle usage strategies. With increased recoil strength, players must now master recoil control techniques or consider alternative medium-range options like the M16 or CARV.2. The weapon remains powerful but demands greater skill for effective use.
FFAR adjustments necessitate loadout restructuring. The reduced ADS speed diminishes its close-quarters combat effectiveness, making traditional SMGs like the MAC-10, Bullfrog, or LC10 more viable alternatives for aggressive playstyles. The FFAR now better serves as a versatile mid-range option rather than an all-purpose weapon.
Attachment corrections create new customization opportunities. Properly functioning rear grips offer legitimate ADS improvements for weapons struggling with handling speed, while accurate stat bars enable more informed loadout decisions across all weapon categories.
As with previous game setting updates, this patch requires only a settings refresh upon login rather than a full game download. The update process typically completes within minutes, allowing rapid access to the rebalanced gameplay experience.

Raven’s official patch notes follow:
- Recoil strength has been increased.
- Burst weapons ride a fine line between inefficient and oppressive. The intent of this change is to maintain the weapon’s identity of being a powerhouse while making it a bit more difficult to wield. Right now we feel it is too easy to stay on target given how lethal it is. We will continue to monitor the performance of the Tactical Rifle Charlie and make additional changes if necessary.

- ADS speed has been decreased.
- The FFAR is a jack of all trades. It has the damage profile and range of an AR as well as the fire rate of an SMG. The FFAR’s wholesale efficacy has it edging out SMGs at ranges we’re not satisfied with. Ideally, the FFAR fulfills the role of a mid-range dominator while falling prey to weapons that excel in short-range engagements. We are bringing the FFAR a bit more in line with what you might expect from an AR—damage and range at the cost of handling.
