Warzone 2 Season 5 brings major gameplay changes, new vehicles, and improved movement mechanics for enhanced battle royale experience
Season 5 Overview & Key Updates
Warzone 2 Season 5 represents one of the most substantial updates since launch, delivering transformative changes to core gameplay mechanics and introducing fresh content across all modes. The August 2 update brings long-requested movement improvements alongside new strategic options that will redefine battle royale engagements.
This season bridges the gap between Modern Warfare 2 and the anticipated Modern Warfare 3, with significant enhancements to both multiplayer and battle royale experiences. The classic Strike map from Call of Duty 4 receives a modern reimagining, while Warzone sees fundamental changes to player movement and match pacing.
Strategic Tip: The movement changes will particularly benefit aggressive players who utilize slide-canceling and jump-shotting techniques. Practice the new timing in private matches before jumping into ranked play.
The Champion’s Quest nuclear contract expands to Vondel with modified mechanics, requiring teams to maintain possession of all three radioactive elements simultaneously. This creates intense end-game scenarios where coordination becomes paramount for success.
Common Mistake: Many players will initially struggle with the new Champion’s Quest mechanics on Vondel. Avoid splitting up your team when carrying elements – stick together to defend against ambushes.
Update deployment begins at 9AM PT (12PM ET/5PM BST) with potential server instability during the first few hours. Plan your gaming session accordingly and expect download sizes between 15-25GB depending on your platform.
Gameplay & Map Updates
Al Mazrah | Battle Royale
- All Squad Sizes on Al Mazrah Battle Royale have had their Player counts reduced to 100, down from 150.
- Ranked will remain at 150 Players until further notice.
The reduced player count creates more strategic gameplay with less mid-match chaos. This change, combined with increased second-chance mechanics, ensures matches maintain intensity while providing better opportunities for tactical positioning.
Circle Timing & Size Adjustments
- The “Delay Time” before the first movement of the gas is now 90 seconds, down from 220 seconds.
- The “Close Time” of how long the gas takes to collapse to the next size is now 215 seconds, down from 270 seconds.
- This change does not apply to Ranked Play.
- Decreased the size of the initial circle.
- This change does not apply to Ranked Play.
We’re shaving off around 3 minutes of the first circle’s logic with a combination of reducing the wait time before movement, and collapsing faster. The initial circle is displayed and in-play earlier which will more clearly highlight the safe (or not so safe areas) before you infil. With the remainder of the matches circle pacing playing out as it did previously.
Advanced Strategy: The faster circle timing favors aggressive playstyles. Consider landing near the center of the first circle to minimize early-game rotations and establish map control.
New Game Modes & Features
- Al Bagra Fortress and its greater surroundings, will be added to the Resurgence map rotation.
- Reinforce your Squad in this Battle Royale Mode with a big difference — you’re dropping onto your own MRAP, and it’s up to you to use, fortify, and repair this hulking vehicle with its turret, protective shielding, and mobile Buy Station, while cutting through rivals operating their own behemoth trucks.
Armored Royale introduces vehicle-centric combat where MRAP management becomes the primary objective. Teams must balance aggression with vehicle preservation, creating unique strategic dynamics not found in standard battle royale.
New Weapons & Vehicles
FR Avancer (Assault Rifle)
- Unlocked via Battle Pass
Carrack .300 (Sniper Rifle)
- Unlocked via Battle Pass
Weapon Strategy: The FR Avancer excels in close-to-mid range engagements with its high fire rate, while the Carrack .300 provides exceptional quickscoping potential for aggressive sniper playstyles.
New Vehicle Additions
- A vehicle roughly the size and shape of the Cargo Truck, the MRAP is equipped for heavy combat with additional armor plating and turrets, making it a slower, yet effective, vehicle for attack or defense.
- MRAP Keys are available at Buy Stations for $50,000 that will enable the ability to start and drive one of three vehicles located on the map.
- The key must be used from the Player’s Backpack.
- This vehicle is disabled in Solos and Ranked Play.
- A nimble and rapid form of transportation that can perform hairpin turns on a dime and can technically fit up to two Players.
Vehicle Tactics: The MRAP serves as a mobile fortress but requires substantial investment. Use it for final circle positioning or when transporting valuable loot. The Dirt Bike offers unparalleled mobility for quick rotations and escape maneuvers.
Weapon Balancing Updates
The following weapon changes are applicable to Warzone only.
- Close-mid Damage increased
- Headshot Multiplier increased
- Maximum Damage Range decreased
- Close-mid Damage Range decreased
Meta Impact: The Chimera and M13B buffs make them viable alternatives to the current meta weapons, while the Lachmann Sub nerf reduces its dominance in close-quarters combat.

Quality of Life Improvements
Movement Enhancements
- Decreased slide time and increased slide velocity, so the Player covers the same distance in a shorter amount of time
- Allowed the Player to fire slightly sooner after initiating a slide
- Small increase to the lateral velocity boost while jumping
- Small reduction to the landing slowdown penalty while landing
These movement changes address community feedback requesting faster, more responsive gameplay. The improved slide and jump mechanics will significantly impact combat fluidity and evasion capabilities.
UI & Interface Updates
- Players will now see their matchmaking status during the Play Again Loading Screen.
- There is now a Win Streak Tracker on the menu and in-game to display your progress towards a Champion’s Quest.
- Shows total amount of ammunition in both backpack and player loadout in the currently equipped weapon.
- In the Squad Widget, the total squad cash will be displayed.
These UI improvements provide crucial information at a glance, reducing the need for constant menu navigation during matches. The win streak tracker is particularly valuable for teams pursuing Champion’s Quest eligibility.
Bug Fixes & Performance
Performance Optimization: The hitching fixes should result in smoother gameplay, especially during intense firefights and final circle scenarios where frame rate drops were previously common.
Introducing “Eco Mode”
- Off: Same behavior as all previous updates with no power savings.
- Minimal (Default): Frame rate capped at 60hz and slight drop in 3D scene resolution for the Multiplayer and Warzone lobbies only. Yields an average power savings of 20%.
- Full: Frame rate capped at 30hz and larger drop in 3D scene resolution for the Multiplayer and Warzone lobbies only. Yields an average power savings of 50%.
Eco Mode provides significant power savings for players on consoles or laptops, reducing energy consumption during extended gaming sessions without affecting actual gameplay performance.
