Pokemon Sword & Shield event adds Gigantamax Hatterene, Corviknight, more

Max Raid Battle guide: Fairy and Flying-type event with Gigantamax encounters

Event Overview

The Wild Area undergoes another transformation as Fairy and Flying-type Pokemon dominate Max Raid Battles in Pokemon Sword & Shield. This limited-time event replaces the previous flower-themed encounters, bringing back fan-favorite species with enhanced battle potential.

From now until March 31, trainers can challenge powerful Fairy and Flying-type Pokemon in specially marked raid dens throughout the Wild Area. The event coincides with the return of two coveted Gigantamax forms – the armored Corviknight and mystical Hatterene.

According to Serebii’s event tracking, these raids follow a predictable spawn pattern with 1-3 star raids appearing more frequently during daylight hours, while 4-5 star encounters become common after sunset. Weather conditions in specific sub-regions may further influence spawn rates.

Raid Battle Strategies

Successfully defeating these Fairy and Flying-type opponents requires careful team preparation. For Fairy-types, Steel and Poison-type moves prove most effective, while Flying-types remain vulnerable to Electric, Ice, and Rock attacks. Consider bringing Pokemon like Perrserker or Toxtricity for type coverage.

Pro Tip: Gigantamax Hatterene’s Magic Bounce ability reflects status moves, making setup strategies risky. Instead, focus on direct damage dealers with high Special Defense to withstand its powerful Psychic attacks.

For Corviknight raids, Electric-types like Boltund perform well, but beware of its Steel typing reducing damage. A common mistake is bringing Fighting-types against Corviknight – its Flying typing makes these attacks ineffective. Instead, use Fire-type moves to exploit its 4x weakness.

Exclusive Rewards

Beyond the chance to catch rare Pokemon, successful raids yield valuable items. Gigantamax encounters guarantee TRs corresponding to their signature moves – expect to find TR89 (Play Rough) from Hatterene and TR52 (Brave Bird) from Corviknight.

5-star raids have a 15% chance to drop Bottle Caps, while 3-4 star raids frequently reward Exp. Candy XL. For shiny hunters, the base shiny rate remains 1 in 300 without the Shiny Charm, but completing multiple raids increases cumulative odds.
