Pokemon Go Weather Week Guide: Dates, Features & Therian Forme Strategies
Event Overview and Dates
Niantic marks the debut of powerful Therian Forme Legendaries with an immersive Weather Week celebration in Pokemon Go. This special event forms part of the broader Season of Legends running from March through May 2021, highlighting iconic legendary Pokemon throughout the franchise.
The Weather Week event specifically celebrates the arrival of Therian Forme Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus – enhanced versions of the legendary Forces of Nature trio.
Following the Searching for Legends and Charge Up! events, Weather Week will activate on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at 10:00 AM local time and conclude on Monday, March 29, 2021 at 8:00 PM local time. This gives trainers nearly six full days to participate in the weather-themed festivities.
Key Features and Pokemon Encounters
Niantic has curated an exciting lineup of weather-appropriate Pokemon for this event. Castform takes center stage with significantly increased spawn rates, alongside other weather-sensitive species like Vaporeon, Lotad, and Pidove. For optimal catches, focus on areas with active weather effects matching these Pokemon’s types.
Egg hatches receive special attention too, with 5km eggs yielding Psyduck, Poliwag, Swablu, Drifloon, Mantyke, Tympole, and Ducklett. Prioritize egg incubation during the event to maximize these special hatches.
Raid enthusiasts will find a refreshed lineup across all difficulty tiers:
- One-star raids: Slowpoke, Tynamo, and more
- Three-star raids: Swellow, Pelipper, and more
- Five-star raids: Therian Forme Thundurus
- Mega raids: Mega Houndoom, Mega Manectric, and Mega Abomasnow
Advanced Strategies
To maximize your Weather Week experience, prioritize catching Pokemon with Weather Boost – these encounters provide bonus stardust and higher IV potential. For best results:
- Check hourly weather forecasts in-game
- Focus on areas with weather matching desired spawns
- Use Star Pieces during active weather periods
For Therian Forme Thundurus raids, prepare teams with strong Ground, Rock, and Ice-type counters. Optimal choices include:
- Rhyperior with Mud-Slap/Stone Edge
- Mamoswine with Powder Snow/Avalanche
- Landorus (Therian Forme) with Mud Shot/Earth Power
