Complete guide to Pokemon Go’s Luminous Legends Y event with research tasks, rewards, and pro tips
Event Overview
Pokemon Go’s Luminous Legends Y event brings a dark twist to the Season of Legends, featuring the debut of Yveltal and Sylveon alongside challenging Team Go Rocket encounters.
Following the Luminous Legends X event, this second installment shifts focus to Dark-type Pokemon with special research tasks, boosted spawns, and raid opportunities. The event is strategically divided into two phases to maximize player engagement and reward opportunities.
NianticYveltal makes its dramatic Pokemon Go debut as the event’s flagship Legendary.
Timed Research Quest
The seven-stage Timed Research quest offers some of the event’s most valuable rewards, including rare Dark-type encounters and essential items. Each stage contains three objectives with escalating difficulty.
Pro Tip:
Focus on stacking Rocket Grunt battles to complete multiple research steps simultaneously. Defeating Leaders counts for both Leader and Grunt requirements.
Advanced players should prioritize the purification tasks early, as they become progressively more demanding in later stages. The final reward of 5000 Stardust and a Deino encounter makes the effort worthwhile.
Field Research Tasks
Spinning PokéStops during the event yields special Field Research tasks with Dark-type focused rewards. These are separate from the Timed Research and can be completed repeatedly.
Common Pitfall:
Don’t delete tasks requiring Rocket Leader battles – these offer the valuable Galarian Zigzagoon encounter that’s otherwise raid-exclusive.
For optimal efficiency, coordinate with local trainers to identify PokéStops offering the most valuable tasks. The Spritzee/Swirlix encounter from purification tasks is particularly valuable for players completing their Pokédex.
Special Event Features
Wild Spawns
Dark-type Pokemon dominate the spawn pool throughout both event phases. Part 1 features increased appearances of Murkrow, Houndour, and Poochyena, while Part 2 introduces rarer Dark-types.
Egg Changes
7km eggs now hatch Dark-type Pokemon including Pancham, while 12km Strange Eggs offer increased chances for rare Dark-types. Stock up on incubators before the event for maximum efficiency.
Raid Updates
Yveltal appears in 5-star raids throughout the event, with Eeveelutions joining in Part 2. Prepare teams of Fairy and Ice-types to counter these Dark-type threats.
Sylveon Debut
The beloved Fairy-type evolves from Eevee by earning 70 hearts as your buddy. This method bypasses the usual name trick limitation, allowing multiple Sylveon acquisitions.
Team Go Rocket Global Challenge
From May 15-23, trainers worldwide must collectively defeat 25 million Team Go Rocket Grunts to unlock special bonuses for Part 2 of the event.
Optimization Strategy:
Use Rocket Radars strategically – defeating Leaders counts for the challenge but doesn’t consume radar charges if you lose first. This maximizes Grunt encounters per radar.
Coordinate with local communities to track progress and organize Grunt hunting routes. The rewards benefit all players, making this a true community effort.
