Marvel Snap October 3 update patch notes: 5 card changes, Super Rare Avatars, more

Marvel Snap October 3 update brings strategic card changes, UI enhancements and quality-of-life improvements for competitive play

Update Overview and Meta Impact

Marvel Snap’s October 3rd patch introduces substantial balance adjustments alongside quality-of-life enhancements that reshape competitive strategies.

Arriving during the Bloodstone season’s spooky festivities, this update focuses on refining underperforming cards while introducing UI improvements that streamline player experience. The timing ensures players have fresh strategic options as they navigate the seasonal content.

Deployed globally on October 3rd, these modifications target specific card interactions that have struggled to find consistent play, offering renewed viability for several archetypes. The changes demonstrate Second Dinner’s commitment to gradual meta evolution rather than disruptive overhauls.

Before diving into matches, understanding these adjustments provides crucial competitive advantage. The numerical tweaks may appear minor individually, but collectively they enable new deckbuilding possibilities.

Strategic players should note that while no single change dominates the meta, the cumulative effect creates subtle shifts in card valuation. Mantis and Cable receive cost-power improvements, while Maria Hill and Uatu trade raw stats for enhanced consistency.

The most significant mechanical change affects Mojo, which now demands both locations reach full capacity to activate its power bonus. This alignment with Dazzler’s condition creates clearer gameplay patterns while reducing unexpected power swings.

Card Balance Changes and Strategic Analysis

Mojo: Consistency Alignment

  • [Old] 2/2 – Ongoing: If both players have 4 cards at this location, +6 Power.
  • [New] 2/2 – Ongoing: If both sides here are full, +6 Power.
  • Developer Note: This consistency adjustment brings Mojo in line with Dazzler’s full location requirement rather than specific card counts. We’re exploring where to draw this design line carefully. Ant-Man’s teammate requirement feels thematically appropriate but may receive similar treatment later.

Strategic Impact: Mojo now works better in decks that flood locations but becomes weaker in situations where you play few high-power cards. Pair with Go-wide strategies like Sera Control or Zoo decks for maximum value.

Uatu the Watcher: Reduced RNG Dependency

  • [Old] 1/2 – Once this is in your hand, you can see the unrevealed locations
  • [New] 1/1 – At the start of the game, shows the right location to you.
  • Developer Note: Uatu’s early-game value was too dependent on drawing him. This adjustment ensures consistent functionality regardless of draw luck. We’re cautious about location information disruption and don’t intend Uatu to become Series 1/2 staple. This conservative approach may be refined later.

Deckbuilding Tip: Uatu now provides guaranteed early intel for planning your right-lane strategy. Perfect for combo decks that require specific location conditions or need to avoid detrimental locations from the start.

    Hand-Filling Card Adjustments

  • [Mantis Old] 1/2 – On Reveal: If your opponent played a card here this turn, draw a card from their deck.
  • [Cable Old] 2/2 – On Reveal: Draw the top card of your opponent’s deck
  • [Maria Hill Old] 2/3 – On Reveal: Add a random 1 or 2-Cost card to your hand.
  • [Maria Hill New] 1/2 – On Reveal: Add a random 2-Cost card to your hand.
  • Developer Note: These three cards, alongside Agent 13, Sentinel, and Snowguard, formed an overlapping group of cheap hand-fillers. We’re creating clearer differentiation in their cost-power combinations and unique capabilities. This begins the process of establishing distinct roles for each card within hand-generation strategies.

Advanced Strategy: Maria Hill now fits better in early-curve decks while providing more consistent 2-Cost options. Mantis remains niche for opponent-deck interaction, while Cable’s visual update to draw from top maintains his information-gathering role with improved clarity.

    Quality-of-Life Features and UI Improvements

  • New Refresh Time: Daily and Weekly Refresh Times are being moved from 3AM UTC to 7PM UTC (+16HRS). Please note, it’s likely that you’ll see a one-time extension on countdown timers when updating to this patch.
  • Player Benefit: This shift accommodates global player bases better, moving refresh to evening hours for North America and more reasonable times for European players. Plan your daily missions around the new 7PM UTC timing for optimal progression.

  • Card Quality Preview: When previewing cards in the Shop (Bundles, Daily Offer, and Token Shop), players will be able to view a card at any Quality Level (Epic, Legendary, Ultra, etc).
  • Collection Tip: Use this feature to preview how your favorite variants will appear at different upgrade levels before committing resources. Particularly valuable for evaluating visual appeal of Ultimate variants.

  • Earn Rare & Super Rare Avatars: Collector’s Reserves can now reward Rare Avatars with art from Rare Variants–including Avatars for Variants you do not yet own! Additionally, once you own all Card Variants for a Rarity (ex: you own all Super Rare Variants), you will be able to earn those Variant Avatars from the Premium Mystery Variant. We plan to add additional ways to acquire Rare and Super Rare Avatars in the future.
  • Location Emoji Reactions: Show your feelings about Locations the same way you’ve been able to express them on Cards with Emoji Reactions. In the Location detail view (accessed by tapping on a Location), tap on the Emoji to bring up the Emoji selector. Currently, there are three options: Starry-eyed, Shocked, and Angry.
  • Social Strategy: Use location reactions to communicate with opponents about particularly beneficial or problematic locations. The angry emoji works well for locations that disrupt your game plan, while starry-eyed indicates locations that strongly favor your deck.

  • News Feed Notification Pip: You will now see a red notification “pip” on the News Feed icon in the Main Menu when there’s a new item listed in the News Feed.
  • Updated Cable’s VFX to draw the card from the top of the deck instead of the bottom.
  • Visual Clarity: Cable’s updated animation now accurately represents his mechanical function, providing better visual feedback about which card he’s drawing from your opponent’s deck.
