Kitty Pryde: Removal and Upcoming Rework

Prior to the April 18 update, Marvel Snap developers announced through official Discord channels that Kitty Pryde would remain unavailable. The problematic card is now scheduled for reintroduction during May’s update cycle following comprehensive redesign work.

Currently, Kitty Pryde remains completely disabled throughout the game ecosystem. Players cannot include her in decks, acquire her through the Token Shop, or obtain her via Collection Level progression, as confirmed by development team statements.

“We’re comprehensively redesigning Kitty’s mechanics to preserve her core gameplay identity while implementing a more streamlined execution,” development representatives explained.

The card previously operated with these specifications: 1-Cost | 0-Power – You can return this to your hand to gain +2 Power. When reintroduced next month, it will feature revised functionality: 1-Cost | 0 Power – When this returns to your hand, +2 Power. Returns at the start of each turn.

However, our modifications to Shuri-Taskmaster combinations proved insufficiently impactful, while Lockjaw-Leech configurations (including Thanos variations) maintained strong competitive positions. Current changes target both these dominant archetypes for reduction from their top-tier status. Beyond Shuri-Taskmaster interactions, overall metagame health appears solid according to internal assessment metrics.

Among six primary adjustments to frequently used cards in this Marvel Snap update, two modifications particularly stand out for their potential meta impact. Following extended dominance periods, Shuri receives a nuanced ability modification. Instead of universally doubling the next card’s Power regardless of placement, the enhancement now exclusively applies when playing your subsequent card at Shuri’s location.

  • Developer Comments: We evaluated numerous Shuri modification approaches, but most threatened to dismantle her existing deck synergies. Several theoretical changes risked creating new problematic combinations with alternate card interactions—an unacceptable outcome when addressing an overpowered card. Today’s adjustment appears subtle but should prove meaningful while preserving core gameplay patterns for her established decks, aligning with our consistent balance philosophy. This modification eliminates Cosmo’s protective capability for Shuri’s target, improves targeted counterplay through cards like Valkyrie, and indirectly strengthens lane control tools such as Professor X. We acknowledge this change might leave Shuri as a statistical outlier—if confirmed, we’ll respond promptly.

    Similarly, Leech undergoes no statistical modifications, instead receiving a timing adjustment to reduce his disruptive potential. Rather than immediately neutralizing all opponent hand abilities upon reveal, the effect now activates at turn six commencement. This means achieving early Leech deployment through methods like Lockjaw won’t trigger the ability until the final turn.

  • Developer Comments: We never intended Leech to become a frequently played card, and recognize recent frustration surrounding his prevalence. When this occurs, it typically indicates either a finisher card generically overpowering raw Power strategies (like Leech-Leader combinations) and/or decks enabling turn-five-or-earlier Leech plays too consistently (like Lockjaw-Thanos). Previous attempts to weaken supporting cards in these decks created balance and design challenges. Consequently, we’ve eliminated the “early Leech” scenario from competitive consideration. Leech should counter specific powerful endgame cards and combinations from unique angles without setup requirements, maintaining important metagame checks should those decks become dominant. This adjustment should enable that specialized role without establishing him as metagame foundation.

  • Developer Comments: Lockjaw delivers exciting gameplay moments, but each activation essentially draws a card while “generating” up to 6 Energy randomly. That represents substantial variance potential within multiple competitive decks! As new cards release, additional methods to mitigate Lockjaw risks will emerge. Since we believe the most powerful and frustrating Lockjaw usage involves multiple activations per turn, often accompanied by snapping, we’re adjusting this interaction. Restricting Lockjaw to single swaps each turn requires more deliberate board development while preventing rapid acceleration or surprise finishes. This makes Lockjaw more predictable to counter and reduces effectiveness in decks utilizing numerous low-cost cards, like Thanos configurations.

  • [Update] 6/9 – Starts on the bottom of your deck. Draw this on turn 6.
  • Developer Comments: Previously, approaching America Chavez in your draw order would simply draw the subsequent card instead. This meant throughout game progression, she statistically appeared more frequently as your top deck card. Thus far this interaction remained mostly irrelevant beyond Yondu considerations, but it limited design space for future cards interacting with deck tops. We anticipate minimal functional impact from America Chavez’s adjustment.

  • Developer Comments: Some players may recall when Jubilee originally featured this ability! During that period, Jubilee frequently performed as 4/10 statline by consistently pulling America Chavez. We previously modified Jubilee’s effect rather than America Chavez’s, as the former represented simpler communication. However, we’re designing future cards that interact with deck tops, so we’re reinstating this design approach! We expect minimal Jubilee impact currently.

  • [Previous] 6/7 – On Reveal: Copy all cards your opponent played to the location right of here, but on your side.
  • [Update] 6/2 – On Reveal: Copy the enemy card(s) with the highest Power played this turn, but on your side.
  • Developer Comments: We clearly overcorrected Leader with prior adjustments, and regret that action became representative of damaging nerf implementations. Our balance philosophy emphasizes preserving maximum playability when weakening cards, which we failed to achieve previously. This modification aims to restore Leader to viable 6-Cost status while avoiding oppressive original-form impact. We’ve cautiously assigned lower Power currently because previous countermeasures against original Leader, like playing weaker cards before strong ones, no longer function.

  • Weekly Spotlight: When a new Series 5 card releases, it immediately features in its dedicated section during its debut week in MARVEL SNAP. After purchasing the Weekly Spotlight card, this section hides until the next new card releases. If you want immediate access to newest cards upon release, this addresses that demand!
  • Ultimate Variants represent some of the game’s most impressive visual alternatives. We believed they warranted separate presentation! We’re relocating Ultimate Variants away from Series 4 and 5 card visibility into their own rotation for players seeking enhanced deck customization.
  • Series 4 & Series 5: This section operates nearly identically to before, but exclusively showcases Series 4 and Series 5 cards. This area will display one unowned card from all available Series 4/5 options, rotating every 8 hours. Series 5 cards join this section after exiting Weekly Spotlight.
  • We’ve implemented game board enhancements! Explore the refreshed artwork and visual effects!
  • – Seasonal Series Drop: Several cards have transitioned to lower series!

  • Players achieving Infinite Rank will exclusively match against other Infinite Rank participants.
  • When selecting cards for detailed inspection in Shop or Collection interfaces, the Card Detail screen now displays Artist Credits, Card Series designation (examples: Series 3, Series 4, or Series 5), and Variant Rarity classification (examples: Rare, Super Rare or Ultimate).
  • When examining cards during matches, you can now “flip” them to view Card Backs in comprehensive detail. We’ve also improved other Card Back viewing areas to showcase their three-dimensional characteristics.
  • After approximately 10 hours of daily gameplay, players cease earning Season Pass XP from matches for the remainder of that day.
  • Collection Level Track has been expanded.

  • UI elements such as the avatar menu and emojis should no longer be clickable when viewing a card’s details in-game.
  • Moving a card in the details view and releasing should no longer close the details view.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause games to Aw Snap when certain card/location combinations were played with Galactus.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed you to use characters in deck names that should be blocked.
  • Fixed some issues that would cause Sandman’s VFX to play in situations where it should not.

Prioritize Weekly Spotlight cards for immediate new releases, then focus on Series 4/5 section for targeted collection completion. Ultimate Variants now occupy dedicated space, reducing clutter during card hunting.

    Common Mistakes to Avoid: Don’t overlook the series drops—several powerful cards become more accessible. Avoid continuing with unmodified Shuri decks without Cosmo protection. Don’t underestimate the Leader rework—his new ability can surprise unprepared opponents.

    Advanced Optimization: Track your daily playtime to maximize Season Pass XP before the 10-hour cap. Utilize the new card inspection features to better understand variant rarities and artist credits. The Infinite Rank matching change creates more balanced competitive experiences at top tiers.
