This incident represents the second major security breach affecting Respawn Entertainment titles within weeks, following the July 5 Apex Legends hack that redirected players to a ‘Save Titanfall’ protest site.
The situation escalated on July 12 when an individual using the alias Jeanue launched direct attacks on Titanfall 2’s servers. Unlike typical DDoS incidents, this attack included disturbing elements of racial harassment through associated Twitch channels where the hacker served as a moderator.
Community Response and Respawn’s Reaction
The gaming community quickly mobilized to document the attacks. On July 17, player Sway Louie shared video evidence showing how Jeanue abused moderator privileges to whitelist favored streamers while blacklisting others based on racial criteria and personal grudges.
Louie’s documentation revealed disturbing chat logs where the hacker enforced racial segregation in server access, stating privileges were “only for white people.” When challenged, Jeanue retaliated with permanent blacklisting.
Respawn Entertainment confirmed having a skeleton crew of 1-2 staff members addressing the issues. This limited response capacity reflects the studio’s prioritization of Apex Legends, Titanfall 2’s more successful sibling title that generates ongoing revenue.
Protecting Yourself as a Player
While awaiting official solutions, players have developed temporary workarounds:
- Using VPNs to bypass IP-based blacklists
- Recording and reporting abusive behavior through proper Twitch and platform channels
- Coordinating through community Discord servers to identify safe play windows
