Master Palworld’s Black Marketeer capture and stock refresh techniques to acquire rare Pals with optimal skills efficiently.
Understanding the Black Marketeer NPC
This guide details advanced techniques for interacting with a unique vendor in Palworld: the Black Marketeer. Mastering these methods allows you to systematically acquire rare Pals with desirable passive skills.
Learn how to locate, capture, and exploit the Black Marketeer’s mechanics to gain a significant advantage in building your ideal Pal team.
The Black Marketeer is a specialized non-player character (NPC) within Palworld’s economy. They are visually distinct, characterized by grotesque, ghoulish facial features and wearing a distinctive executioner’s-style hood, making them easy to spot amidst other traders.
Multiple Black Marketeers exist in the world. Reliable spawn points include the depths of the Abandoned Mine, within the confines of Duneshelter, along the southern coastline of Mount Obsidian, and in the area beyond the Dessicated Desert near the entrance to the PIDF Tower. Scouting these locations is your first step.
Their primary function is to operate as a fence for illicit goods. Players can sell “illegal” Pals or even captured humans to them. More importantly, they maintain a personal stock of Pals for sale, which consistently features a higher rarity and better potential traits compared to the inventory of standard Pal merchants found in settlements.
Preparation and Capture Strategy
Successfully subduing a Black Marketeer is a significant combat challenge. They are permanently set at Level 40 and are armed with a rapid-fire machine gun, dealing substantial damage. Under-leveled or poorly equipped attempts will fail.
Essential Preparation: Aim to be at least Level 30 yourself. Your Pal team should be optimized for single-target, sustained damage output against a high-health pool. Pals with powerful Dragon, Dark, or Electric-type skills are excellent choices. Equip your character with high-tier armor and healing items.
Combat Execution: Engage the Marketeer from behind solid environmental cover—rocks, ruins, or terrain. Their gunfire is relentless but can be blocked. The strategy is to peek from cover, issue commands to your Pals or fire a few shots, then retreat before taking significant damage. Prioritize keeping your Pals alive as they are your main source of DPS.
The Capture Moment: Do not defeat them. You must reduce their health to a low state, indicated by a significant change in their movement and attack speed. Once they are weakened, switch to a Hyper Sphere. This advanced capture sphere becomes craftable at Player Level 27 and offers a far higher success rate on tough targets like this. Throw it to attempt the capture.
Common Mistake: Using lower-tier spheres like Mega or Giga Spheres is a waste of resources against a Level 40 human NPC. The capture chance is negligible. Wait until you have Hyper Spheres.
Stock Refresh Mechanics and Optimization
Once captured, the real utility begins. Assign the Black Marketeer to your base via the Palbox. They will perform work tasks like any other Pal.
The key mechanic is that each time the Black Marketeer is physically spawned into the game world at your base, their internal merchant inventory rerolls. This means exiting and re-entering the base area, or fast traveling away and back, will generate a new, random selection of Pals in their shop menu. This allows for targeted farming of specific Pals or, more importantly, specific passive skills (like “Lucky,” “Ferocious,” or “Work Slave”).

This spawn-and-check cycle is the core method for continuously refreshing their Pal stock without needing to capture another Marketeer.
The Gold Sink: This power comes at a steep cost. Black Marketeers sell their rare Pals for premium prices, often tens of thousands of Gold each. Before embarking on this farm, establish a robust gold income. This can be through selling farmed resources, captured Pals to regular merchants, or completing high-reward dungeon runs. Optimization Tip: Focus your refresh cycles on Marketeers that spawn selling Pals you actually need. There’s no point spending gold on a Pal you won’t use.
Advanced Tips and Common Pitfalls
To maximize efficiency and avoid frustration, keep these advanced insights in mind.
Skill Targeting: When checking the Marketeer’s stock, look beyond the Pal species. Inspect each Pal’s passive skills. You might find a common Pal with a perfect set of legendary skills, which is often more valuable than a rare species with poor skills.
Pitfall – Ignoring Cover: Trying to face-tank the Marketeer’s machine gun is the fastest way to fail. The environment is your best ally. Use it aggressively.
Pitfall – Poor Gold Management: Do not capture a Black Marketeer if you have less than 50,000 Gold saved. The process is meaningless if you cannot afford the Pals they sell. Farm gold first.
Optimization: Have a clear goal before starting refresh cycles. Are you looking for a specific Pal? A specific skill combo? This saves immense time. Consider building a small, efficient base near a fast travel point to make the spawn/check cycle as quick as possible.
