Veteran Halo champion Roy joins Status Quo roster ahead of critical HCS 2022 NA Regional Qualifiers
Strategic Roster Addition: Roy’s Return to Competitive Halo
Status Quo has strategically acquired competitive Halo veteran Justin ‘Roy’ Brown to strengthen their lineup before the crucial HCS 2022 NA Regionals Qualifier.
The 31-year-old professional has been actively practicing with Status Quo as their new starting player, taking over the roster position previously held by Charlie ‘Fragou7’ McLaughlin during intensive preparation sessions for the upcoming qualifier.
This roster transformation follows inconsistent performances from Status Quo during their initial Halo Infinite competitive appearances. The organization managed to qualify for only one out of four HCS Pro Series tournaments organized by 343 Industries across North America, and during that single qualification they suffered an early elimination in the lower bracket’s opening round.
Roy maintains established connections with Status Quo, having competed briefly under their banner during previous competitive cycles. He previously teamed with Michael ‘Flamesword’ Chaves back in 2012 during AGL 1 Chicago and more recently during late 2020 in two separate FACEIT MCC Pro Series competitive events.
Roy’s Championship Legacy and Career Achievements
Roy contributes extensive competitive expertise gathered throughout his twelve-year career competing at Halo’s highest professional tiers with prestigious organizations including Instinct and Evil Geniuses. Throughout his competitive tenure, he secured fifteen major tournament victories, highlighted by championship wins at the 2011 MLG National Championship and X Games Aspen 2016, accumulating total winnings exceeding $200,000 before concluding his professional career in 2019.
In 2021, the competitive Halo community recognized his legendary status by ranking him seventh among the twenty-five greatest professional players in franchise history. His identical twin brother, Jason “Lunchbox” Brown, also earned recognition on this prestigious list, securing the ninth position and establishing the Browns as Halo’s most accomplished sibling duo.

HCS 2022 Qualifier Landscape and Competitive Outlook
Scheduled for January 30th, the HCS Regional Qualifier presents eight available slots for the North American Regionals championship. The premier event will take place from February 11th through 13th in Anaheim, California, with elite organizations including FaZe Clan, Sentinels, and OpTic Gaming already confirmed among the eight automatically qualified teams.
Through a social media video announcement, Flamesword clarified that Fragou7 will participate independently in the upcoming qualifier. “We definitely want to maintain him as a content creator for our organization, so we’re currently working through those specific arrangements,” Flamesword additionally stated regarding Fragou7’s continued involvement with Status Quo.
