    We also registered substantial feedback regarding desires for dedicated Slayer playlists – content that was always planned but required additional development time for testing and finalizing new game mode variations. Slayer enthusiasts should anticipate this playlist expanding with fresh experiences in upcoming months.

    In response to this community input, we’re thrilled to introduce four new social matchmaking playlists to Halo Infinite today:

  • Tactical Slayer (“SWAT”) – Focused precision combat requiring accurate marksmanship
  • Today’s playlist expansion represents an initial phase – we recognize players desire even greater control and diversity – and development teams continue working on long-term strategies for rotational and core playlists, additional game modes, and enhanced matchmaking experiences.

    Strategy Note: When playing Tactical Slayer, prioritize positioning and sightlines over aggressive pushes, as the mode heavily rewards strategic positioning and patient aim over reflexive combat.

    Ranked Matchmaking Improvements

    Significant adjustments to Halo Infinite’s competitive matchmaking systems aim to create more balanced and stable competitive environments.

    Ranked matchmaking now emphasizes pairing players of similar individual skill levels, particularly benefiting higher-ranked competitors seeking appropriately challenging matches.

    Meanwhile, casual playlists like Big Team Battle prioritize low-latency connections between players, ensuring smoother gameplay experiences especially for those in regions with smaller player populations.

    Ranked and BTB Matchmaking updates

    Following the beta launch, our teams have continuously monitored matchmaking metrics and maintained careful observation of overall system performance to verify expected functionality. Additionally, we’ve received feedback from competitors expressing concerns about ranking functionality and/or frustration with their competitive experiences. Development will persist in this area while we implement targeted short-term adjustments:

  • We modified ranked matchmaking parameters to enhance priority for closely-matched individual skill games, especially benefiting higher-skilled players. We’re implementing this incrementally – the initial priority enhancement occurred December 11th, with the second adjustment deploying today.
  • We altered Big Team Battle matchmaking rules to emphasize creating matches with reduced latency. This primarily assists players in lower-density regions avoid high-ping matches.
  • We’re expanding overall matchmaking timeout duration from 5 minutes to 10 minutes, to better serve highly-skilled players locating appropriate matches, especially when participating in complete fire teams or searching from low-population areas.
  • We’ll continue observing ranked and comprehensive matchmaking systems closely and will disclose additional system details and future plans when available.

    As of this publication, development teams recognize and are actively addressing intermittent Big Team Battle matchmaking problems reported in recent days.     Finally, we understand some competitors also anticipate additional Ranked Playlists beyond current offerings. Please note we face greater technical challenges with Ranked Playlists compared to Social options, so any future competitive updates will require extended development time.

    Today represents the third comprehensive update to Challenges and Progression since Halo Infinite’s beta launch November 15. In each instance, Challenges have undergone iteration and refinement, eliminating outliers and modifying problematic entries, while simultaneously accelerating overall Battle Pass advancement. Thus far, we’re satisfied with these modification outcomes, but we recognize numerous opportunities for continued evolution and enhancement.

    Substantial development remains necessary to thoroughly address player feedback regarding these systems – and comprehensive changes will require extended timelines (i.e. performance-based XP, per-match XP, additional progression methods, etc.)– but meanwhile, development teams will continue implementing meaningful service-side updates to refine and improve overall experiences.

    Today’s update intends to further reduce frustrating challenges, introduces completely new challenges utilizing fresh playlists, and decreases requirements for weekly Ultimate Challenges. And, while not immediately active, modifications have been implemented for Event Challenges to address initial player feedback.

    Comprehensively, numerous mode and activity-specific challenges have been completely removed, had their requirements reduced, and/or had their frequency decreased across challenge distributions. Additionally, overall frequency of ‘General’ challenges has been increased.

    We recognize the inability to select specific modes matching particular challenges can prove frustrating and today’s modifications should help decrease some friction short-term while long-term development continues.

    Today’s playlist additions will also introduce new playlist-specific challenges. Anticipate discovering specific playlist iterations of each fresh challenge category:

  • Personal Score – Accumulate personal score in the specified playlist to complete
  • Kills – Earn the required # of kills in a specific playlist
  • Double Kills – Earn double kills in a specific playlist
  • Complete Games – Play and complete games in a specific playlist
  • Win – Win games in a specific playlist
  • Specific requirements and corresponding XP will vary depending on the rarity type of the challenge (i.e. “Normal”, “Heroic”, “Legendary”).

    Players provided feedback indicating difficulty progressing Event Challenges due to them becoming ‘stuck’ behind Weekly Challenges and/or insufficient challenges during event weeks. Moving forward, and when Fracture: Tenrai returns, Event Challenges will appear more frequently, eliminating periods where players previously experienced waiting stagnation. And, while Events will typically maintain limited challenge quantities available during specific weeks – meaning completion will require participation across multiple weeks – maximum counts will increase to provide additional buffer and permit highly-engaged players slightly accelerated progression.

    Optimization Tip: Complete playlist-specific challenges while focusing on your strongest game modes. The new system rewards specialization, so concentrating on modes where you perform well can accelerate challenge completion significantly.
