Discover how SquatingDog leverages UEFN to revolutionize Fortnite Creative mapping and creator economy strategies
From Creative Mode Pioneer to UEFN Innovator
We conducted an in-depth interview with acclaimed Fortnite streamer SquatingDog, exploring UEFN’s transformative impact, the evolving creator economy, his groundbreaking Fortnopoly creation, and strategic insights for aspiring map developers.
Succeeding as a Fortnite content creator demands exceptional resilience and consistency. The relentless cycle of streaming, content production, and community engagement overwhelms most creators. SquatingDog stands as a remarkable exception, having crafted Creative maps since Fortnite’s early days. Our conversation delved into UEFN’s capabilities, his creative methodology, and the strategic thinking behind Fortnopoly’s development.
Fortnite Creative fundamentally transformed gaming dynamics by empowering users to transition from passive players to active architects. This paradigm shift enables creators to design custom maps, innovative minigames, and immersive experiences shared globally across the Fortnite ecosystem.
Numerous content creators have embraced this creative revolution, developing specialized mini-games tailored to their communities. SquatingDog represents one of the pioneering figures who began mapping when Fortnite’s Creative mode first launched, establishing himself as an industry leader through consistent innovation.
As an experienced mapmaker and top-tier Fortnite creator, SquatingDog has captivated audiences and fellow creators alike with his distinctive sandbox environments. The introduction of Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) marked a pivotal moment, enabling him to elevate his craft significantly, culminating in his recent Fortnopoly release that demonstrates advanced UEFN capabilities.
Reflecting on his mapping origins, SquatingDog revealed his longstanding passion for minigame development, with Fortnite’s Creative mode providing the perfect platform to transform his ideas into playable experiences.
Among his foundational projects was Proxyball, an inventive dodgeball variation where competitors utilize Proximity Launchers to eliminate opponents while navigating arenas enhanced with strategic Bouncer placements.
Buddy System, another notable early creation, reimagined conventional death-run mechanics by introducing cooperative elements that demanded precise teamwork to navigate intricate obstacle courses.

Discussing his initial Creative mode experiences, SquatingDog noted: “The original Creative mode presented significant limitations. We worked with a mobile-like device to place Prefab gallery items on our designated block, which severely restricted creative possibilities.”
“Gameplay sessions often resulted in map instability, and our imaginative scope remained confined to existing in-game assets and mechanics,” he elaborated.
UEFN’s arrival revolutionized the creator landscape for innovators like SquatingDog, who expressed relief at gaining access to professional tools including Blender, Adobe Photoshop, and Unreal Engine for crafting custom assets. These externally created components seamlessly integrate into the editor, facilitating highly detailed maps with impressive visual fidelity.
SquatingDog has produced some of the most visually stunning UEFN (commonly called Creative 2.0) environments, earning recognition from both his community and fellow creators. His UEFN projects like Fartnite, Rats, and Barbenheimer gained popularity through their conceptual originality and execution quality.
“UEFN represents a transformative tool that streamlines map development processes. It’s perfectly suited for creators like myself who prefer utilizing diverse software applications and generating custom assets to enhance their map environments,” he explained.
“From my perspective, Creative 2.0’s most significant improvement involves eliminating the mandatory Support-A-Creator button that earlier Creative maps incorporated, requiring immediate interaction before gameplay initiation.”
Navigating the Creator Economy Landscape
When addressing creator economy dynamics and map discovery mechanisms, SquatingDog responded: “The updated compensation structure closely resembles YouTube’s model. Increased player engagement directly translates to higher creator earnings. However, the current Discovery system remains underdeveloped. It fails to identify distinctive maps or recommend engaging games beyond conventional Red vs. Blue and OnlyUp variations.
“I believe Epic is in the early stages of refining this system, but I’m confident they’ll implement improvements soon, enabling fans who appreciate my work to receive in-game notifications about my latest map releases. This would simultaneously function as promotional support for creators seeking direct player access to their maps without requiring 12-digit code entry.”
Innovative Map Showcase: Fortnopoly and Beyond
Fortnopoly, his newest UEFN creation, represents an inventive fusion of traditional Pit-style gameplay with Lucky Block mechanics within Fortnite Creative. Leveraging sophisticated tools including Blender and Unreal Engine, he transformed two-dimensional Monopoly board game components into fully realized three-dimensional environments.
“Fortnopoly delivers a pit map experience designed to empower players with enhanced capabilities,” SquatingDog described. “Players begin with suboptimal loadouts, earning gold through eliminations or completing laps. Gold accumulation occurs rapidly, enabling players to utilize currency for tile interactions that unlock superior weaponry, modify pit dynamics like implementing Floor is Lava mechanics, or even drain the entire map environment.”
The creator additionally developed a specialized map for CourageJD titled OnlyUp Together, presenting a collaborative interpretation of the viral platformer genre. This experience demands duo coordination and team synergy development to complete an extensive journey spanning the solar system.
OnlyUp Together incorporates iconic Fortnite elements including The Mecha, the historic Rocket from launch events, and additional nostalgic references. CourageJD and SypherPK subsequently streamed the map, collaboratively navigating the experience while engaging their viewing audiences.
Regarding his UEFN future plans, SquatingDog detailed: “Multiple projects are currently in development. I’m attending Unreal Fest in October to pursue grant funding for an ambitious concept, though I cannot disclose specific details at this stage.
“My immediate focus involves completing the OnlyUp Duos map for CourageJD, scheduled for imminent release. Following that, I’ll develop a Rats experience building upon my initial game concept, where players embody miniature rats leaping from an enormous Battle Bus.”
