Elden Ring 1.04 update patch notes: Weapon & balance changes, bug fixes, more

Elden Ring 1.04 brings major weapon buffs, spell improvements, and critical bug fixes for all platforms

Introduction to Patch 1.04

Elden Ring’s substantial 1.04 update has officially launched across all platforms, bringing transformative changes to combat balance and addressing numerous technical issues. This comprehensive patch represents FromSoftware’s ongoing commitment to refining the gameplay experience based on community feedback and performance data.

Bandai Namco has deployed update 1.04 for Elden Ring following brief server maintenance, delivering extensive rebalancing and critical fixes to FromSoftware’s acclaimed RPG masterpiece.

The maintenance period concluded successfully, making version 1.04 available to players on PS5, PS4, Xbox consoles, and PC simultaneously.

Similar to the previous 1.03 update, this iteration focuses heavily on weapon and spell balancing while resolving numerous bugs that affected gameplay across all platforms.

Version 1.04 introduces substantial modifications to the game’s extensive arsenal, enhancing attack patterns, damage output, and defensive capabilities across dozens of weapon categories including greatswords, colossal weapons, and specialized armaments.

Magic users will find significant improvements to sorcery and incantation performance, potentially reshaping optimal build strategies and spell selection for both PvE and PvP encounters.

Comprehensive Weapon Balance Changes

The weapon balance adjustments in patch 1.04 fundamentally change combat dynamics, particularly for strength-based builds that previously struggled with slow attack speeds. Colossal weapons now offer more viable options for aggressive playstyles.

    Strategic Implications and Build Recommendations

Patch 1.04 significantly shifts the Elden Ring meta, creating new opportunities for previously underutilized builds while maintaining balance across playstyles. Understanding these changes is crucial for optimizing your character’s performance.

Strength Build Renaissance: The colossal weapon improvements make pure strength builds dramatically more viable. Focus on weapons like the Grafted Blade Greatsword that received specific damage buffs, and utilize the improved blocking capabilities to create a more versatile combat style that doesn’t rely solely on dodging.

Magic Optimization: With casting speed improvements across dozens of spells, intelligence and faith builds now have better tools for aggressive play. Prioritize spells that received multiple buffs like Ancient Dragons’ Lightning Spear and Black Flame rituals for maximum efficiency.

Common Mistake to Avoid: Don’t overlook the activation requirement for stat growth changes. Remember to re-equip stat-boosting gear or activate Godrick’s Great Rune once to ensure you receive the improved FP and stamina growth rates at lower levels.

Weapon Skill Strategies: The animation cancel options added to many skills create new defensive opportunities. Practice using skills like Black Flame Tornado with the cancel feature to maintain pressure while preserving escape options against aggressive enemies.
