Dr Disrespect reveals scrapped Deadrop plans as he still wants to make new game

Dr Disrespect unveils canceled Deadrop concepts and reveals future gaming ambitions after studio closure

The Rise and Fall of Midnight Society

Dr Disrespect has disclosed previously unseen Deadrop development plans while confirming his ongoing ambition to create his own gaming titles in the future.

The popular streamer shared these revelations mere weeks following the official shutdown announcement from Midnight Society, the game development studio he originally founded.

Originally established in 2021 by the YouTube personality Dr Disrespect, Midnight Society assembled former Call of Duty and Halo developers to create an innovative extraction shooter experience. The project rapidly gained traction within gaming communities, with the studio pioneering an inclusive development model that incorporated dedicated fans for providing crucial feedback on early game snapshots of Deadrop.

However, in June 2024, the development studio severed its relationship with Dr Disrespect after the content creator acknowledged that his Twitch platform ban resulted from exchanging inappropriate messages with a minor. Merely seven months following this separation, Midnight Society permanently ceased operations.

Deadrop’s Ambitious Vision Revealed

On February 11, Dr Disrespect published an extensive thread on X platform that unveiled numerous abandoned Deadrop development concepts while confirming his continued interest in future game creation endeavors.

“Deadrop possessed the potential for true gaming excellence,” he stated as the opening remark in his X platform thread. He further disclosed his collaborative work with an enthusiastic fan to design the foundational map sectors, sharing conceptual artwork for five distinct environmental zones.

“These represent the original conceptual artworks for the various sectors. Our objective involved creating compelling thematic and aesthetic diversity between different zones while preserving consistent scale and gameplay cohesion,” he elaborated.

“After establishing our core Founder team and defining the studio structure with exceptional AAA development talent, our primary creative strategy for Deadrop’s unveiling initiated with discussions surrounding an interactive firing range experience,” he continued, explaining their commitment to delivering players an “unprecedented transparent methodology” for game design philosophy.

“We aimed to establish an early developmental atmosphere while providing players with previews of an innovative ‘potential future’ transparent approach to game creation. Consequently, we opted to design and construct a firing range environment while enabling our art team to conduct preliminary stress testing on Unreal Engine 5. This included my initial top-down design concepts alongside early development screenshots from the team’s build iterations.”

Once we formed our Founder team and the studio was starting to be defined with incredible AAA talent, our first initial creative approach for the reveal of Deadrop started with a discussion around a playable firing range.

Lessons from Game Development Experience

Dr Disrespect provided additional insights regarding the game’s development, expressing his profound appreciation for collaborative work with concept artists and his deep personal connection to the game world. He also indicated plans to share additional content in the future.

“The unfortunate handling of circumstances that ultimately precipitated the studio’s closure represents a significant professional disappointment. We had developed an exceptionally innovative concept that we ultimately failed to maintain. However, to my dedicated Champions and Variants community members, I assure you I possess numerous additional game concepts. I remain determined to achieve success in this endeavor eventually,” he affirmed.

It’s unfortunate how things were handled which ultimately led to the closure of the studio. We were onto a very cool concept and we let it slip out of our hands.

But Champs and Variants, trust me I’ve got quite a few more game ideas. I will make it work someday… 🤝
