Destiny 2 update 3.1.1.1 patch notes: Stasis nerfs & exotic drop rate changes

Destiny 2’s 3.1.1.1 update rebalances Stasis subclasses and fixes Eyes of Tomorrow drop rates

Hunter Ability Adjustments

Bungie has implemented significant changes to Hunter Stasis abilities in the latest update, particularly targeting their effectiveness in PVP environments. The controversial Shatterdive ability, which previously dominated Crucible matches, has received substantial nerfs that will change how Hunters engage in combat.

The once-powerful Shatterdive now features a 4-second cooldown between activations and has completely lost its damage resistance. This change forces Hunters to be more strategic about when they use this ability, rather than spamming it in close-quarters combat. For PVE content, these changes have minimal impact, allowing Hunters to maintain their effectiveness against AI opponents.

Withering Blade, another cornerstone of the Hunter’s Stasis toolkit, has seen its damage against players reduced from 90 to 65. The slowing effect has also been weakened, with applied slow stacks dropping from 60 to 40. Additionally, the target acquisition range after hitting a player has been reduced from 12m to 8m, making it less oppressive in ranged engagements.

Titan Stasis Tweaks

Titan Stasis abilities have undergone careful recalibration in this update, with Glacial Quake and Shiver Strike receiving targeted adjustments. The Super ability Glacial Quake no longer freezes nearby enemies when initially cast in PVP, though this functionality remains unchanged for PVE content.

Additional changes to Glacial Quake include increased energy costs for Shiver Strike activations (from 3% to 7% Super energy) and reduced damage resistance while in Super (from 60% to 50%). The combo of Shiver Strike into a Heavy slam attack now properly consumes energy for both actions, closing an efficiency loophole that Titans previously exploited.

Shiver Strike itself has been modified to more quickly pull slowed players downward, preventing extended aerial combat situations. This change, along with fixes for ceiling collision issues, makes the ability more predictable in Crucible matches while maintaining its utility in PVE scenarios.

Warlock Mixed Adjustments

Warlocks experience the most diverse set of changes in this update, with some abilities receiving nerfs while others get unexpected buffs. Penumbral Blast suffers the most significant reduction, with its damage against players dropping from 80 to 30, though PVE damage remains unchanged.

In contrast, Winter’s Wrath projectiles now maintain their tracking strength for 10 seconds (up from 2.2 seconds) and feature a larger proximity detonation radius (increased from 1.5m to 1.65m). Iceflare Bolts also receive quality-of-life improvements, with 33% greater target acquisition range and improved turning speed to better track nearby enemies.

Chaos Reach sees a minor adjustment, with reduced Super energy refund when canceled early. This change prevents Warlocks from excessively chaining their Super activations in Crucible matches while preserving the ability’s core functionality.

Exotic Drop Rate Fixes

The update addresses long-standing issues with the Eyes of Tomorrow rocket launcher’s drop rate mechanics. Bungie discovered that bad luck protection was incorrectly being applied per character rather than account-wide, causing frustration for players who ran the Deep Stone Crypt raid across multiple characters.

This fix combines raid completions across all characters into a single value and applies retroactively. Players who previously ran the raid on multiple characters will now see their drop chances properly reflect their total investment. Additionally, a bug causing reduced damage against yellow-bar enemies has been corrected, restoring the weapon’s intended effectiveness in high-level content.

For players still pursuing this exotic, the adjusted drop rates mean your chances now properly increase with each completion, regardless of which character you use. This change particularly benefits dedicated raiders who previously spread their attempts across multiple Guardians.

General Gameplay Improvements

Duskfield Grenades receive substantial nerfs in this update, with their pull range reduced from 9.5m to 6m and slow stacks significantly decreased. The grenade detonation now applies 10 slow stacks (down from 20), with each tick applying 5 stacks (down from 10). These changes make the grenade less oppressive in PVP while maintaining its crowd control utility in PVE.

Stasis Crystals now deal reduced damage to players (55 max, 25 min down from 85 max, 55 min), and the Whisper of Chains fragment provides less damage resistance in Super (5% down from 25%) against Guardian attacks. The UI for slow effects has been improved, now displaying stacks as X/100 instead of X/10 for better readability with fractional slow applications.

Various quality-of-life fixes address issues with patrols, network usage, and inventory management. Notably, the Mantle of Battle Harmony exotic now functions in PVP, granting small amounts of Super energy and damage bonuses under specific conditions.
