Unlike previous activities, Astral Alignment focuses on a direct assault against the forces of Xivu Arath, requiring guardians to align celestial energies and push back the Taken invasion. The following guide will equip you with the knowledge to not only complete the activity but to master its nuances.
Phase 1: Initial Clear and Beacon Activation
The activity begins straightforwardly in a familiar chamber of the Dreaming City, often recognized by veterans of the Blind Well. Your first task is a full enemy clearance.
Pro-Tip: Use this initial phase to warm up and gauge your team’s combat effectiveness. Area-of-effect (AoE) weapons like grenade launchers or abilities with high add-clear potential (e.g., Vortex Grenades, Warmind Cells) are highly efficient here.
Once the area is secure, interact with the central device, insert your Ascendant Compass, and prepare for teleportation. A common early mistake is lingering too long after the clear; move promptly to the device to begin the next encounter timer.
In the new zone, advance directly ahead to activate the waiting beacon. This action triggers the core mechanic of the next phase and summons a wave of Taken adversaries. Positioning is key—activate the beacon from cover if possible, as enemies spawn immediately.
Phase 2: Collapse the Taken Rifts
This phase introduces a collect-and-deposit mechanic. Your primary targets are elite foes marked as ‘Eye of Xivu Arath’. Defeating them yields a Taken Essence.
Strategic Insight: The Eyes are often tougher majors. Coordinate focus fire with your team to burn them down quickly. Special ammo weapons like shotguns or fusion rifles are ideal for this task. Do not ignore the surrounding lesser Taken, as they can overwhelm an unprepared team.
Once you secure an Essence, locate a nearby glowing Taken Rift and deposit it. Each deposit contributes to collapsing that Rift. The mechanic repeats until all Rifts in the area are destroyed.
Common Pitfall: Players often die while holding the Essence, causing it to despawn and slowing progress. Designate one or two players as dedicated “runners” with resilient builds (high Recovery/Resilience, protective supers like Well of Radiance or Ward of Dawn) to secure and deposit Essences, while others focus on add control and eliminating Eyes.

Phase 3: The Battery Installation Encounter
This segment combines enemy waves with a demanding coordination test. Three Batteries must be installed twice each, totaling six installations, while under constant fire.
Picking up a Battery applies the ‘Encumbered’ debuff for 20 seconds, severely hampering mobility and jump height. When the debuff expires, you automatically drop the Battery and gain ‘Exhausted’, a cooldown preventing you from picking up any Battery for a short period.
Advanced Coordination Tactics: The key is seamless handoff. Teams should pre-assign pairs to each battery lane. As Player A’s Encumbered timer nears 5 seconds, Player B should position themselves nearby. The moment the battery is dropped, Player B picks it up to continue the installation progress without loss. Communication via voice chat is nearly essential here.
Optimization Tip: Players not carrying batteries should aggressively focus on add-clear. Weapons with high ammo economy (like Trinity Ghoul with its catalyst or riskrunner) excel. This protects the carriers and maintains control of the arena. Ignoring adds is a frequent wipe cause.
After the sixth installation, defeat the remaining enemies to advance to the final showdown.
Phase 4: Final Boss Showdown
The climax returns you to a modified Blind Well arena for a boss fight. The week-one boss is Kholks, Taken of Xivu Arath. Bosses may potentially rotate in future weeks.
The first health segment is straightforward: unleash all available damage. Use this phase to pop damaging supers and heavy weapons.
For the second and third health chunks, an immune shield activates. To break it, you must find and destroy a Taken Pylon in the arena, defeat the powerful enemy it releases, and collect the resulting Taken Essence. This Essence grants you a temporary buff allowing you to damage the boss’s shield.
Pro-Tip for Efficiency: Split the team during shield phases. Designate 2-3 players as “Pylon Hunters” to locate and destroy the Pylon quickly, while the rest of the team focuses on controlling adds and damaging the boss’s shield-bearer enemy. The hunters should have high mobility and perhaps a scanner ability (like a Hunter’s Keen Scout) to find the Pylon faster.
Repeat the Pylon destruction process for the final health segment. Upon the boss’s defeat, claim your seasonal rewards to complete the Astral Alignment Offensive.
