Dead by Daylight x Alien update: Release date, patch notes, Xenomorph, Ripley

Complete guide to Dead by Daylight’s Alien crossover with killer strategies and survivor tactics

Alien Crossover Confirmation and Release Details

After months of speculation and player theories, Behaviour Interactive has officially confirmed the highly anticipated Alien collaboration for Dead by Daylight. The crossover brings one of cinema’s most terrifying creatures into the Fog alongside its legendary human counterpart.

The Alien crossover confirmation follows extensive fan speculation that began when Disney’s franchise coordinator Ken Pejoro engaged with the Dead by Daylight community on social media platforms.

Community detectives first noticed potential hints earlier this year when Pejoro used specific hashtags and engaged with DbD fans about potential horror character additions. His previous use of #SciFI hashtags during Alien Day celebrations raised eyebrows among observant players.

While Alien Day in April passed without any official announcement, August brought the confirmation fans had been waiting for. The developers teased the collaboration with an atmospheric trailer showcasing what appears to be interiors from the Nostromo spacecraft.

The official reveal occurred on August 8th with a cinematic trailer that confirmed both the Xenomorph as a new Killer and Ellen Ripley joining as a Survivor. The full content becomes available to all players on August 29th.

Steam users can currently access the Public Test Build to experience the new content early. This allows players to test the balance and provide feedback before the official launch.

The suffocating silence of outer space pushes resolve beyond its limits.

Strategic Tip: For players looking to prepare for the Alien chapter, focus on mastering stealth gameplay and environmental awareness. The Xenomorph’s tunnel mechanics will require survivors to develop new strategies for map navigation and threat detection.

The Xenomorph Killer: Abilities and Strategies

New Killer – The Xenomorph

  • Killer Power
    • Hidden Pursuit
      • A network of underground tunnels becomes active when the Xenomorph enters the match. By interacting with Control Stations, the killer can access these passageways to traverse the map rapidly, sense nearby survivors through detection systems, and accelerate the recharge of Runner Mode. Emerging from a Control Station marks any survivors in the vicinity with the Killer Instinct effect.
    • Special Ability: Runner Mode
      • The Xenomorph automatically activates Runner Mode when the ability is available. This quadrupedal movement mode enhances stealth by shrinking the Terror Radius while granting access to a powerful Tail Attack that can injure survivors from a distance.
    • Map Feature: Control Stations
      • Seven Control Stations are distributed throughout the map environment. Survivors can utilize these stations to obtain Remote Flame Turrets, while the Xenomorph uses them as entry and exit points for the tunnel network beneath the playing area.
    • Special Item: Remote Flame Turret
      • Survivors can deploy these turrets to counter the Xenomorph’s abilities. When the killer moves within range and line of sight of an active turret, it automatically fires, causing the Xenomorph to stagger and exit Runner Mode. Overused turrets will overheat and require survivor repairs, while the Xenomorph can destroy them with direct attacks.
  • Perks
    • Ultimate Weapon
      • Opening a locker activates this perk for 30 seconds. Survivors who enter your Terror Radius during this period will scream, revealing their location and gaining the Blindness status effect for 30 seconds. The perk then enters cooldown for 40/35/30 seconds based on perk level.
    • Rapid Brutality
      • This perk removes your ability to gain Bloodlust. However, successfully hitting a survivor with a basic attack grants 5% movement speed increase for 8/9/10 seconds depending on perk level.
    • Alien Instinct
      • Hooking a survivor activates this perk, revealing the aura of the most distant injured survivor for 5 seconds. That survivor also becomes Oblivious for 16/18/20 seconds, preventing them from hearing your Terror Radius.
  • Advanced Strategy: Master Xenomorph players should focus on using tunnels for map control rather than just transportation. The cooldown reduction for Runner Mode makes strategic tunnel usage essential. Place tunnels near generator clusters to maintain pressure on multiple survivors simultaneously.

Common Mistake: Avoid overusing Runner Mode in open areas where turrets can easily target you. Instead, use it for ambushes around structures and in areas where survivors have limited sightlines for turret placement.

Ellen Ripley Survivor: Perks and Survival Tactics

    New Survivor – Ellen Ripley

  • Perks
    • Lucky Star
      • Entering a locker activates this perk, eliminating blood pools and pain sounds for 10 seconds. When exiting the locker, you gain the ability to see other survivors and the nearest generator through yellow auras for 10 seconds. The perk then enters cooldown for 40/35/30 seconds.
    • Chemical Trap
      • After completing 70%/60%/50% progress on any generator, this perk becomes active. While positioned near a dropped pallet, use Active Ability Button 2 to set a Trap that remains armed for 100/110/120 seconds. All survivors can see trapped pallets through yellow auras. When the killer breaks the trapped pallet, the explosion slows them by 50% for 4 seconds.
    • Light Footed
      • When you’re at full health, this perk remains active, silencing your running footsteps. Performing rushed actions puts the perk on cooldown for 28/24/20 seconds before it can be used again.
  • Strategic Application: Ripley’s perks create a versatile survival toolkit. Lucky Star provides excellent information gathering after evading the killer, while Chemical Trap offers powerful area denial. Light Footed makes her exceptionally quiet when healthy, perfect for stealthy generator repairs.

Team Play Tip: Coordinate with teammates to maximize Chemical Trap effectiveness. Place traps on pallets in key chase areas and communicate their locations so other survivors can lead the killer into them. The shared aura reading helps the entire team utilize these defensive positions.

Common Mistake: Don’t waste Chemical Traps on isolated pallets with little strategic value. Focus on high-traffic areas and pallets near completed generators where chases are likely to occur. Also, avoid using Lucky Star when the killer knows your location—the cooldown is too long for wasted activations.

Nostromo Wreckage Map and Gameplay Changes

    New Map – Nostromo Wreckage

Discover the enigmatic crash location of the legendary Nostromo spacecraft. Experience recognizable landmarks from the Alien universe in this distinctive environment where pursuit moves between the ship’s interior and exterior. Evade the killer around the shuttle that transported Ripley to the Entity’s realm. Traverse the extraterrestrial terrain, and you might survive the wreckage remains.

  • The Knight
    • Pillaged Mead – Reduces the time required for Guards to execute Order actions to 15% (previously 25%).
    • Tattered Tabbard – Extends Patrol duration for all Guards to 8 seconds (previously 6 seconds).
    • Town Watch’s Torch – When Survivors successfully evade Guard Hunts without taking damage twice (previously three times), The Knight receives Undetectable status for 25 seconds.
  • The Demogorgon
    • Killer Power – Undetectable status after teleportation now lasts 5 seconds (previously 3 seconds).
    • Rat Tail – Improves Portal creation speed to 50% (previously 35%).
    • Unknown Egg – Shortens cooldown after Upside Down travel to 2.5 seconds (previously 1.5 seconds).
    • Violet Waxcap – Extends Undetectable duration when emerging from Portals to 1 second (previously 0.5 seconds).
    • Leprose Lichen – Reveals all Survivor auras during Upside Down traversal. After Portal emergence, shows auras of Survivors within 16 meters of active Portals for 3 seconds.
  • The update also introduces several technical improvements and quality-of-life changes:

  • New VSync toggle setting for performance optimization
  • Customizable FPS limit controls
  • Anti-aliasing enable/disable option
  • Updated resolution settings
  • Improved bot behavior within Terror Radius areas
  • Enhanced bot interactions with killer companions like Nemesis zombies
  • Fixed VHS alignment for survivors facing The Onryo
  • Added pain screams when hit by Deathslinger harpoons
  • Map Strategy: The Nostromo Wreckage combines tight interior spaces with more open alien terrain. Survivors should use the ship’s corridors for hiding and the exterior areas for looping. The Control Stations are strategically placed—learn their locations to effectively counter the Xenomorph’s tunnel system.

The Public Test Build for Dead by Daylight’s Alien collaboration continues for Steam users, with the complete update scheduled for full release on August 29.
