Master the medieval mayhem of DbD Chapter 26: Forged in Fog with comprehensive release details, character strategies, and map insights.

Forged in Fog: Chapter Overview & Release Schedule

Marking the twenty-sixth major content drop for Dead by Daylight, Forged in Fog plunges players into a medieval nightmare. This chapter expands the game’s roster with an original, guard-summoning Killer and a philosophically-minded Survivor, all set within a desolate new realm.

Forged in Fog delivers a complete DbD experience package: a new strategic Killer in The Knight, a lore-rich Survivor in Vittorio Toscano, a fresh map to master, and a suite of new Perks to reshape the meta.

Each new chapter reinvigorates the game’s ecosystem, and Forged in Fog stands out with its focus on area denial and multi-target pressure, shifting gameplay dynamics significantly for both roles.

This update centers on a Middle Ages aesthetic, introducing The Knight, a master of minions, Vittorio Toscano, a seeker of lost knowledge, and the perilous Shattered Square map set within the Decimated Borgo Realm.

Our guide delves beyond basic facts to provide actionable strategies, common pitfalls to avoid, and optimization tips to leverage this chapter’s content fully.

The Forged in Fog chapter officially went live across all platforms—PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch—on November 22, 2022.

Ahead of the full release, a Public Test Build (PTB) was available on Steam from November 1, 2022. The PTB allows dedicated players to experiment with new mechanics, provide feedback on balance, and develop early strategies before the content hits the live servers.

The Knight: Killer Analysis, Power Breakdown & Perk Guide

The newest entity to join the Killer roster, The Knight (Tarhos Kovács), revolutionizes gameplay with his ability to deploy AI-controlled Guards, creating a persistent, multi-directional threat.

His origins trace back to a raided Hungarian village, leading to enslavement in Italy. There, his brutality and martial prowess forged not only his freedom but also the unwavering loyalty of three warriors: his Guards. His reputation as a symbol of cruelty culminated when the Entity’s fog delivered him to a realm of endless conflict, his ideal hunting ground.

His power, Guardia Compagnia, is a tactical tool for map domination. It allows The Knight to summon one of three distinct Guards, each tailored for specific tactical roles to corral, injure, or lock down Survivors.

The Knight’s power is called Guardia Compagnia, which allows it to summon one of three Guards to patrol nearby areas and hunt Survivors or execute tasks:

  • The Carnifex – The brute. Excels at breaking pallets and generators faster and sustains a longer Hunt duration, perfect for applying relentless pressure.
  • The Assassin – The duelist. Moves with increased speed during a Hunt and inflicts the Deep Wound status effect, forcing Survivors into risky mending actions.
  • The Jailer – The warden. Patrols more swiftly, detects Survivors from a greater range, and maintains patrols for extended periods, ideal for area denial and generator guarding.
  • By holding the power button, The Knight draws a Patrol Path. The summoned Guard will follow this route indefinitely until its timer expires or it visually detects a Survivor, triggering an aggressive Hunt. A critical strategic note: While drawing a path or summoning, The Knight cannot see Survivors, granting them a brief window to reposition or flee the area unseen.

Mastering Guardia Compagnia involves predicting Survivor movement to cut off escape routes, using the Jailer to lock down a completed generator triad, or sending the Carnifex to swiftly clear a safe pallet loop. Survivors must listen for the distinct audio cues of each Guard’s summoning and patrol to avoid accidental detection.

The Knight brings three unique Perks to the trial, focusing on generator regression and hindering Survivor coordination:

Nowhere to Hide: Kicking a generator reveals the aura of nearby Survivors for a short duration, perfect for finding those hiding just outside your terror radius.
Hex: Face the Darkness: A hex that, when active, causes injured Survivors outside your terror radius to scream periodically, revealing their location and disrupting healing.
Hubris: After being stunned by a pallet, you gain a substantial speed boost and the ability to break pallets and walls faster for a limited time, turning a Survivor’s successful stun into a moment of extreme vulnerability.

Vittorio Toscano: Survivor Lore & Perk Strategy

Vittorio Toscano enters the fray not just as a new Survivor, but as the tragic architect of The Knight’s entry into the Entity’s realm, their fates irrevocably intertwined.

Born in 1343 Italy, he rejected violence for philosophy and archaeology. His quest for the mythical Lapis Paradisus led him to hire Tarhos Kovács as protection—a fatal mistake. Betrayed and left to die after discovering the stone, Vittorio’s final act of inscribing its symbols summoned the very fog that claimed him, delivering both seeker and mercenary to their eternal prison.

Vittorio’s Perks are designed for the knowledgeable team player, providing information and utility:

Potential Energy: Allows you to “store” progression on a generator when working on it alone. If you stop repairing, this stored progress is lost, but if you complete the generator, the bonus progress is added. High-risk, high-reward for skilled solo generators.
Fogwise: Successfully hitting a Great Skill Check while repairing reveals the Killer’s aura for a few seconds. An excellent information-gathering perk for players with consistent skill check accuracy.
Quick Gambit: When you are being chased within a certain range of a generator, other Survivors working on that generator receive a noticeable repair speed boost. This encourages coordinated play and can turn a chase into a generator-completion opportunity.

Vittorio excels in teams with clear communication. Fogwise provides critical intel on Killer location, while Quick Gambit rewards teams for grouping gen repairs near a chase. Potential Energy requires careful map awareness to avoid wasting the stored progress.

Shattered Square Map: Layout, Landmarks & Gameplay Tips

The Shattered Square is the tactical battlefield introduced with this chapter, a charred remnant of a medieval Italian village within the Decimated Borgo Realm.

This environment reflects The Knight’s traumatic past, mirroring the burned village of his youth. The layout features open plazas dotted with ruined shacks, creating a mix of dangerous dead zones and cluttered, safer pathways.

The most significant structure is the central The Gathering Hall. This two-story building with an attached shed offers one of the map’s strongest looping zones. Survivors can utilize windows and pallets inside and around it to extend chases, while Killers must be wary of overcommitting here.

Survivor Tips: Use the line-of-sight blockers provided by the numerous small shacks to break chase. The open square areas are extremely dangerous—cross them quickly or avoid them altogether. The upper floor of The Gathering Hall provides a long sightline to track the Killer’s approach.
Killer Tips: The Knight excels here. Use Guards to patrol the open squares and Shack areas, forcing Survivors into the open or revealing their positions. The map’s many corners are ideal for placing Patrol Paths that cut off common vault locations or generator approaches.

    Advanced Tactics & Common Mistakes

    Playing As The Knight:
Do: Use the Jailer to guard a cluster of nearly-complete generators. Use the Assassin to pressure injured Survivors trying to heal in remote areas. Pre-place Patrol Paths across common window vaults or pallet loops before engaging a chase.
Don’t: Summon Guards directly on top of a Survivor you’re chasing—the animation time will lose you distance. Neglect the audio cue that tells you which Guard is active. Forget that you are blind during the summoning cast; use it predictively, not reactively.

    Playing Against The Knight:
Do: When you hear the Guard summoning sound, immediately move away from your current position to avoid the planned Patrol Path. Heal Deep Wounds from the Assassin as soon as it’s safe. Work on generators in areas with multiple escape routes to avoid being cornered by a Guard patrol.
Don’t: Assume a Guard will only patrol the path you see—it can hunt if it spots you. Try to loop a Guard like a normal Killer; their AI pathing is different. Panic when a Guard is summoned; calmly identify its type (by its appearance and sound) and react accordingly.

    Surviving on Shattered Square:
Do: Use the numerous small shacks to break line-of-sight before attempting to lose the Killer. Be aware that the open square areas offer the Knight excellent visibility for Guard placement.
Don’t: Get caught in the dead-center of the main square. Waste pallets in the open areas; save them for stronger structures like The Gathering Hall.
