Insider insights on Crash Bandicoot and Master Chief’s unlikely Smash Ultimate debut
The Current Speculation Landscape
The Super Smash Bros. Ultimate community has been abuzz with speculation about potential DLC fighters, but recent insider information suggests two fan-favorite characters may not make the cut.
Despite persistent rumors, industry insider Nate The Hate indicates Crash Bandicoot’s chances of joining the roster are dwindling as Fighters Pass Volume 2 nears completion.
With only two remaining slots in the second fighters pass, the window for Crash’s inclusion is closing rapidly. The orange marsupial had been considered a strong contender following the announcement of Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time coming to Nintendo Switch.
Halo’s Master Chief, while always a longshot, maintains slightly better odds according to insider analysis. This stems from Microsoft and Nintendo’s successful collaborations bringing Banjo-Kazooie and Minecraft’s Steve to Smash previously.
Nate The Hate’s Credible Perspective
Nate The Hate, a respected figure in gaming leaks with a strong Nintendo track record, recently shared his perspective on the DLC speculation during his podcast.
“While my co-host gave both characters reasonable chances, my gut tells me we won’t see either in this pass,” Nate explained. He did concede that if either were to appear, Master Chief would be the more probable candidate.
Nate’s skepticism carries weight given his history of accurate predictions. He correctly anticipated several Nintendo Direct announcements and has reliable sources within the industry. His cautious approach to leaks makes his doubts particularly noteworthy.
The insider also humorously addressed a fan suggestion that he himself might be revealed as a Smash fighter during E3, highlighting the sometimes outlandish nature of character speculation.
Historical Context and Future Possibilities
The potential exclusion of Crash Bandicoot is particularly disappointing given Activision’s reported efforts to include the character. Sources suggest the publisher had a “five-year plan” to get Crash into Smash Bros.
Microsoft characters have found success in Smash before, with Banjo-Kazooie’s inclusion in 2019 and Minecraft’s Steve joining in 2020. This established relationship makes Master Chief’s inclusion theoretically possible, though still unlikely according to insiders.
As with all rumors, fans should maintain cautious optimism until official announcements. The final two DLC characters for Fighters Pass Volume 2 will be revealed by December 2021, potentially offering surprises that contradict current speculation.
