Analyzing chrisJ’s legendary MOUZ career, role evolution, and what his departure means for CS:GO veterans
The Historic Departure
MOUZ has officially concluded their professional relationship with CS:GO veteran Chris ‘chrisJ’ de Jong, terminating an eight-year partnership with the Dutch player.
MOUZ has officially concluded their professional relationship with CS:GO veteran Chris ‘chrisJ’ de Jong, terminating an eight-year partnership with the Dutch player.
This decision concludes the lengthiest continuous player affiliation within the CS:GO competitive landscape for any single organization. chrisJ originally joined MOUZ back in October 2013 as part of the complete Party Daddlers roster acquisition.
The chrisJ Cycle: Bench Memes and Resilience
His time with MOUZ experienced significant fluctuations, including two separate bench placements during 2017 and 2019 where he was temporarily removed from the active roster. Remarkably, he reclaimed his starting position within weeks on both occasions.
This recurring pattern of roster changes involving chrisJ evolved into the popular “+chrisJ -chrisJ” meme throughout the CS:GO community. The pattern shifted permanently in January 2021 when he received a permanent bench assignment. His final competitive appearance occurred later that year during DreamHack Open November, substituting for an ill Aurimas ‘Bymas’ Pipiras.
End of an era.

Role Evolution and Team Contributions
Throughout his MOUZ career, chrisJ demonstrated exceptional adaptability by consistently modifying his gameplay approach according to team requirements. He occupied numerous positions spanning from supportive roles to in-game leadership responsibilities across different seasons. In his concluding months with the squad, he assumed primary AWP duties following Özgür ‘woxic’ Eker’s transition to Cloud9.
Although never achieving superstar status statistically, chrisJ functioned as the emotional core for an organization that underwent multiple identity and cultural transformations throughout his eight-year span. He participated in German-dominated lineups and international configurations featuring prominent teammates including Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovač, Robin ‘ropz’ Kool, and Janusz ‘Snax’ Pogorzelski.
Defining Moments and Legacy
He frequently attracted criticism during team performance slumps, yet simultaneously possessed the capability to produce extraordinary highlight moments. His spectacular AWP ace versus Team Liquid during the ESL One New York 2018 championship match earned recognition as the year’s premier highlight by HLTV.org.

Future Prospects and CSPPA Involvement
chrisJ hasn’t revealed his upcoming career directions. Since August 2018, he has maintained a board position with the Counter-Strike Professional Players’ Association (CSPPA), an organization dedicated to protecting and advancing professional Counter-Strike competitors’ interests throughout their careers and beyond.
