Astralis has officially confirmed that Martin ‘trace’ Heldt, currently serving as academy coach, will assume leadership of the main roster leading up to PGL Major Antwerp.
This strategic coaching change positions trace at the helm of Astralis’ primary competitive squad during the critical Major qualification period.
At 31 years old, Heldt will oversee Astralis’ competitive operations across multiple tournaments, beginning with ESL Pro League Season 15 commencing March 9. He temporarily replaces Alexander ‘ave’ Holdt, who faces eligibility restrictions during this Major qualification cycle encompassing the Regional Major Ranking tournament in Bucharest. Despite completing his six-month suspension from ESIC, Valve maintains Ave’s disqualification from their sanctioned competitions due to his 2018 spectator bug violation while coaching North.
AstralisWhile restricted from Major coaching duties, ave will provide strategic guidance to the development squad and support trace during this transitional phase Having joined Astralis on November 4 following Danny ‘zonic’ Sørensen’s departure, Ave will resume his head coaching responsibilities after PGL Major Antwerp concludes. Martin ‘trace’ Heldt established himself among Counter-Strike’s elite during 1.6’s twilight era, forming an integral component of the legendary mTw roster that included current colleagues zonic and ave. His competitive tenure extended to Fnatic across both 1.6 and CS:GO platforms between 2012-2013, followed by two separate competitive returns in 2015 and 2017 that didn’t achieve desired results. Following his competitive retirement, trace transitioned into coaching during 2021, accumulating experience with Team Singularity, Lyngby Vikings, and ECSTATIC before his January acquisition to lead Astralis’ developmental team.
